It dawned on me one morning, sitting on the balcony of our luxury apartment in Pefkos, Rhodes, playing with our 9 month old son and looking out over the bay. Does life get any better than this?

Well, I don’t think so. The only thing that would be better is even more of it!

Bright blue sky, aquamarine sea in the bay, the smell of lamb kleftiko being slowly cooked ready for the dinner guests later that night. Absolute heaven.

This lifestyle isn’t available to everyone… mostly the retired, who have saved up their money and can spare the time two, three or even four times a year.

So how is it possible to achieve the holiday lifestyle before retirement? How do you gain the flexibility that allows you to take seemingly vacation after vacation?

Well, it isn’t anything more than a lot of people do. They own their own businesses. However, a lot of self employed people are involved in service related businesses such as plumbers, electricians and shop owners. When these business owners don’t work, they don’t get paid. Their businesses are based on a simple, direct exchange of money for the time they spend working in their areas of expertise. Every day spent away from their businesses could cost them dearly through lost income from their daily rates.
