Corvette ZR1 sets 7min 26 'Ring time
June 30th 2008 05:35
The Corvette ZR1 supercar driven by a development engineer has just lapped the Nurburgring Nordschliefe in an astonishing 7:26.4 in a bone-stock factory-spec car using standard tyres, suspension and alignment settings.
This betters the Nissan GT-R's best time of 7 minutes and 29 seconds by some three seconds and is also 1.4 seconds faster than the best time a Pagani Zonda F could muster.
For authentication purposes, this staggering lap time was recorded with an electronic timing system plus two other hand-held stopwatches. By recording such a blistering time on the track that has become the yardstick by which any performance vehicle is measured, it is hard to imagine the Corvette ZR1 achieving anything but legendary status when it goes on sale.
An in-car video will be posted when the engineering team returns from Germany and will become available on the week of July 7.
