Knight Rider KITT goes under the hammer

A pair of Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR from the new Knight Rider (TV movie) series have been auctioned to Ford's Salute to Education charity at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Palm Beach, Florida.

Apparently, the two cars weren't exactly KR models - they were, in actual fact, regular GT models dressed up as KRs for the movie but with some added goodies such as a supercharger, Brembo brakes, upgraded suspension and exhaust. The two cars sold were the regular KITT Hero as well as the KITT Attack model (a high-speed version with additional aero parts).

And for good measure, Ford also threw in a third car as part of the bidding - a single allocation of a 2009 GT500 KR for base price. The winning bidder scooped three cars for a cool US$300,000 with all proceeds going to charity.

Two-minute 'Knight Rider' Video Clip

It's hard not to get excited by the new Knight Rider TV series that debuts on US television in February. For those of us that grew up watching the original series starring KITT Two Thousand and David "The Hoff" Hasselhoff the new series will be a trip down memory lane - we bet you still remember the original theme song

We're excited here at ZCars because a) we grew up watching the original series, b) we don't care that remakes and/or sequels ~~can be~~ are usually crap and c) it features a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR!

This latest two-minute video clip of the new Knight Rider features a number of actual scenes from the upcoming two-hour movie premiere and a brief chat with Justin Bruening, who plays the character of Mike Traceur (the son of Michael Knight) in the new series.
