The Audi R8 supercar
Audi has announced that it will be unveiling the production version of its new supercar, the R8, at the Paris Motor Show.
The stunning R8, which incorporates the name and the genes of the five-time Le Mans winner, features a mid-mounted 420 bhp V8 FSI engine taken from the stonking RS4 model.
The 4.2-litre engine delivers 309 kW (420 bhp) of power and 430 Newton-metres of torque. Such performance figures combined with Audi's Space Frame aluminium chassis allows the R8 to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and thus reaching a top speed in excess of 300 km/h!
The R8 is an amazing looking car - fantastic proportions, muscular flanks and wide stance means this car will attract attention wherever it goes.
In a breakthrough for headlight technology, the R8 is set to become the first series-production car to offer the option of ordering all the headlight functions (dipped beam, main beam, daytime running lights and indicators as Light emitting diodes (LED)). Such a setup offers substantial advantages over conventional bulbs (halogen and xenon) based on a much longer life and superior lighting capabilities.
Furthermore, the design and size of LEDs gives designers all the freedom they need for creativity in terms of designing the front end and headlights of the car.
A total of eight exterior colours are available including Ibis White and Phantom Black, both with pearl effect.
Driver-focussed interior of the Audi R8
Interior-wise, it's all about the driver from the uber-cool flat-bottomed steering wheel to the awesome looking gearbox. The sports seats are trimmed as standard in a Leather/Alcantara combination, or optionally in full leather. Alternatively, the R8 can also be fitted with bucket seats, specially developed by quattro GmbH.
Australian release date and prices remain unknown at this stage.

I love this car. It looks great. You can see the engine through the glass (or whatever it is made of) cover and I must say that engine is a sexy bit of gear. I can only imagine what it sounds like too! Can't wait for the till they finish slotting the Lambo V10 into this, though I'd have to say I prefer the V8 motor at the moment, for no particular reason.

And yes, this is an absolutely stunning car (just look at that interior! Porsche drivers should look away though cos they would be too jealous) with awesome performance (it shares the same engine with the Audi RS4).
I would easily take one of these over a Porsche 911.
