Holden produces 7 millionth Vehicle
August 20th 2008 00:15
Holden has welcomed its seventh million vehicle off the production line at the company's Elizabeth manufacturing facilities in Adelaide in the year of its 60th birthday.
The milestone vehicle was a VE Commodore sedan - a model which celebrates its own 30th anniversary this year.
A suitably delighted Executive director of manufacturing Rod Keane said: "This is a proud day for every one of GM Holden's 6,500 employees in Australia,
"It says so much about us as one of this country's largest manufacturing operations and most trusted brands.
"The next chapter in our history will see us delivering a wide range of energy solutions to meet varying consumer needs and budgets.
"I believe manufacturing the next million vehicles will be one of the most dynamic periods of GM Holden's rich history."

This year the company expects to ship half its locally-produced cars to overseas markets, including the United States, the Middle East and Europe.
Federal Industry Minister Kim Carr congratulated the manufacturer on its milestone but did not forget to add that Holden - and all of Australia's car producers - could not afford to rest on their laurels and had to work hard to develop low-emission, fuel-efficient vehicles.
"The reality is that the internal combustion engine will be with us for quite a while, so it's essential that we make it run cleaner and more efficiently," he said.
"This is our best chance of reducing fossil-fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions in the short term."
