2010 Holden Delta small car


Holden will build a second car-line based on General Motors' global Delta small car platform to sit alongside the popular Commodore range from the third quarter of 2010.

The new front-wheel-drive sedan/hatch will be built at GM Holden's Elizabeth manufacturing facility in South Australia whilst design and engineering work will take place at the company's headquarters in Port Melbourne, Victoria.


With support coming from the Federal and South Australian Governments, the vehicle will be based on General Motors' global Delta small car platform and feature new technologies to increase fuel efficiency and reduce greenhouse emissions.

The new front-wheel-drive vehicle will be built as a sedan and hatch at GM Holden's Elizabeth manufacturing facility in South Australia. Design and engineering work will take place at the company's headquarters in Port Melbourne, Victoria.

Direct injected petrol and diesel variants of the vehicle will be produced while a range of alternative fuel or fuel saving technologies including E85, LPG, CNG and start-stop hybrid capability are also being considered.

Further details about the vehicle including its nameplate, design specifications and pricing will be determined closer to the time of production.

Holden has revealed an updated version of the Barina for the 2009 model year which includes a minor makeover featuring a new front fascia and mildly redesigned rear-end while an updated instrument panel, console and new fabric trim can be found inside the cabin.

The engine remains unchanged for 2009 with power from the Barina's 1.6-litre engine still at 76 kW and 145 Nm of torque. In terms of fuel economy there are better vehicles in this class with the Barina returning 7.0 L/100km (manual) and 7.6 L/100 km (automatic).

All 2009 Barina models including the the 4-door Barina sedan receive driver, front passenger and side-impact airbags as standard. What won't be standard are ABS brakes which are part of a $1,190 option pack also featuring alloy wheels.

Prices start at $14,490 for the 3-Door Hatch - the 4-Door Sedan and 5-Door Hatch starts from $15,990.
