The Land Rover Defender 90 will return to Australia after an absence of around three years with greater on-road and off-road ability, plus increased comfort, performance and refinement.

2010 Land Rover Defender 90

The new Defender 90 has received a host of major upgrades include a 2.4-litre common rail diesel engine offering increased torque and improved driveability, over the previous Defender 90 engine, while the manual six-speed gearbox provides a lower first gear ratio, for better off-road control, and a high sixth gear for improved cruising refinement. The inside of the vehicle features a new fascia and a high-output heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system. New seating also improves comfort for all occupants, and for the first time in the Defender 90 includes full size forward facing second row seats.

“Land Rover is immensely proud of Defender's reputation for off-road supremacy and dependability, it will get you there and back, regardless of climate or terrain. With the reintroduction of the 90 in Australia, Land Rover now offers nine different Defender derivatives, across three wheel bases. Whatever requirements, be they lifestyle or commercial, Defender has the specialised variant to better suit the off road and load carrying requirements of our customers."

Land Rover LRX

Land Rover has confirmed the LRX concept car unveiled at the NAIAS (Detroit Show) in January 2008 will be heading into production and will go on sale in 2011 as a Range Rover.

The compact SUV with a sporty profile features a sloping roof, long coupe-like doors, big 20-inch wheels and sleek aerodynamic side mirrors. It will also be the smallest, lightest and most efficient vehicle the company has ever produced.

"The new vehicle will be a natural extension to the Range Rover line-up, complementing the existing models and helping to define a new segment. It will be true to the concept and have many recognisable Range Rover design cues including the signature clamshell bonnet, the floating roof and the solid 'wheel-at-each-corner' stance," said Gerry McGovern, Land Rover design director.

The Official Range Rover Press Release:

Land Rover has confirmed today that a production version of its exciting LRX concept car will be built. The new car will debut next year and join the Range Rover line-up in 2011.

Designed and engineered at Land Rover's state of the art Gaydon facility, the new Range Rover will be the smallest, lightest and most efficient vehicle the company has ever produced. The new car will be built at the multi award-winning plant in Halewood, on Merseyside, subject to quality and productivity agreements and will be sold in over 100 countries around the world.

Phil Popham, managing director of Land Rover said: "The production of a small Range Rover model is excellent news for our employees, dealers and customers. It is a demonstration of our commitment to investing for the future, to continue to deliver relevant vehicles for our customers, with the outstanding breadth of capability for which we are world-renowned."

"Feedback from our customer research also fully supports our belief that a production version of the LRX Concept would further raise the desirability of our brand and absolutely meet their expectations." Phil added.
