Eaton to supply superchargers for Audi
July 21st 2008 00:15
German car maker Audi has decided to enlist the help of industrial manufacturer Eaton to supply the superchargers for its new 3.0-litre TFSI V6 engine.
Audi's 3.0-litre TFSI V6 engine will become a member of the automaker's family of ultramodern V engines with production due to start later this year. The supercharged engine will feature Eaton's Twin Vortices Series™ (TVS™) supercharger, a Roots-type positive displacement supercharger featuring twin four-lobe rotors that are twisted 160-degrees.
The intermeshing, high-speed rotor design pumps air directly into the engines intake system that when mixed with fuel creates more power. This design evolved from the original Eaton supercharger which featured three lobes twisted 60 degrees. The fourth lobe and added twist, when combined with redesigned air inlet and outlet ports, creates a smooth, highly efficient flow of air into the engine and has improved noise and vibration characteristics.
The supercharged 3.0-litre TFSI V6 produces 213 kW and plenty of retractable torque down low for fantastic performance in real world driving applications, in particular, day-to-day driving.
The upcoming Audi S4 sedan is rumoured to be equipped with the 3.0-litre TFSI V6 while the lethal RS4 is rumoured to feature the same 3.0-litre TFSI V6 but at a much higher level of tune.
