August 4th 2008 04:36
Prestige car maker Bugatti has unveiled the name, the first set of official images and details of the roadster/targa version of the Veyron 16.4.
Officially named the 'Grand Sport', this particular Veyron 16.4 features a unique fabric roof for open top driving when so desired. This comes at the expense of top speed which has been 'limited' to 350 km/h but who cares when you the engine and exhaust note of a quad-turbocharged W16 engine banging against your ear-drums. Despite this,
the Grand Sport is still set to be the world’s fastest roadster. Its 8.0-litre, 16-cylinder, double V engine generates 1,001 bhp and is capable of propelling the car from 0-100km/h in 2.5 seconds.
Bugatti has said that only limited numbers of the Grand Sport will be built and will carry a price tag that sits well over AU$2,000,000.
The Grand Sport will make its public debut at the Pebble Beach Concourse d'Elegance on August 17 with the first vehicle (chassis number 001) to be auctioned off to the highest bidder at the event.
