AIMS: Maserati GranTurismo
November 8th 2007 06:00
The stunning Maserati GranTurismo made its Australian debut at the Australian International Motor Show and it was undoubtedly the major drawcard of the Maserati stand by a long shot.
In Maserati's own words, the Pininfarina designed coupe is a marriage of "muscularity and sensuality" and I could not agree more.
Underneath the gorgeous body of the grand tourer par excellence lies a Ferrari-derived 4.2-litre V8 delivering 298kW - enough to propel the 1880kg coupe from rest to 100km/h in 5.2 seconds.
Australian spec cars receive Skyhook adaptive suspension, Bose upgraded stereo and comfort front seats. Skyhook is activated via the Sport button and provides a complete transformation over the relatively amiable, normal mode. Sport sharpens throttle response and reduces the six-speed ZF auto's shirt times, fairly begging you to drop down a gear, via the F1-style paddle shifter, as you sail into another hairpin.
The Maser is not blindingly quick by any means but it's fast enough and you know what they say? It's not necessarily how fast you get there that's the most important, but to do it in style is where the money's at.
And talking about money, this Italian stunner will set you back $292,800. Your nearest lottery newsagent is that way!
