Ford FG Falcon XR6 Turbo: Fastest Australian performance car?
April 10th 2008 05:45
According to Drive.com.au, the new Ford FG Falcon XR6 Turbo not only is the fastest Ford Falcon ever built, but also the fastest Australian performance car.
Using satellite-assisted timing equipment, the FG Falcon XR6 Turbo was timed accelerating from 0 - 100km/h in just 5.1 seconds and ran the benchmark quarter mile (or 400-metre sprint) in 13.4 seconds. For the sake of accuracy, several times were recorded and the new XR6 was able to nail a very low 5 second sprint every single time - with the air-conditioning ON!
These are remarkable numbers and makes it even faster than the V8 XR8 model which could only manage 6.3 seconds - a staggering 1.2 seconds slower.
And more importantly, it is faster in the real world than any models bitter rivals Holden have managed in the past. Despite HSV's factory claims of a 4.96 second 0 - 100 km/h sprint time for its flagship V8 Clubsport, most independent tests have found a slightly less ambitious time of 5.2 seconds.
The sprint time of the FG Falcon XR6 Turbo boasts a 0.8 second improvement over its predecessor courtesy of a new turbocharger and larger intercooler while overall driving ability has been improved with a fantastic blend of handling ability and comfort.
It'll be interesting to see whether other publications can replicate these stunning results and if so, we will have some serious 'bang for your bucks' right here.

Drive's not owned by Ford, therefore independant.

You guys need to read, if you can.
The FG's were pre release models specially for the media drive days, they do this to give us something to read BEFORE the cars hit the show rooms.
This is done to generate interest for the release date.
Have a look at Motor Magazine's tests of the F6. I came accross a pre release FG GT at a car wash in country NSW being driven by a Ford Engineer who was part of a road show doing media days.
It looked fantastic.
I think Holden have a lot to worry about, and now Rod Barrett from FPV is saying the GTHO will definitely be ressurected as the ultimate Ford Hero Car.
Yes Yes !!
Have a nice day.
