Bugatti Veyron Targa: Ready for next year?
April 15th 2008 10:45
Bugatti’s communication chief, Georges Keller, has confirmed to Automotive News that a targa-version of the ultra exclusive and super fast Veyron will be launched some time next year.
Given the sheer velocity the Veyron is capable of travelling at, a conventional convertible guise would not have been possible so a targa-version with a removable hardtop has been given the green-light instead.
Significant reinforcements and underbody changes will have to be implemented to maintain torsional rigidity sans the roof so inevitably, a bit of performance will have to be sacrificed as well as a reduced top speed to the region of 350 km/h - not 'slow' by anyone's standards.
There will, however, be no storage space for the removable hardtop within the car meaning the cover will have to be taken off at home or a chauffeur will have to escort the roof in a separate car just in case it starts pouring down.
No word on whether a Bugatti designed raincoat will be available for owners in case of an 'emergency'.
