Once in a while, we feel compelled to bring you the latest news from the world of motorsport and the demise of the Super Aguri F1 Team is most worthy of a post on ZCars.

The struggling Honda-funded F1 team has announced that it is ending its participation in Formula 1 with immediate effect due to financial difficulties - a 'breach of contract by the promised partner SS United Oil & Gas Company resulted in the loss of financial backing and immediately put the team into financial difficulties'.

Although there were rumours of an 11th hour buyout offer for Super Aguri from German automotive firm Weigl, Honda apparently wasn't too keen on this arrangement which left Super Aguri team principal Aguri Suzuki no choice but to pull out of F1.

Super Aguri's two drivers, Anthony Davidson and Takuma Sato, will be left without a seat for the rest of the season while the number of teams and vehicles on the starting grid will be reduced to 10 and 20 respectively for the rest of 2008.

The Official Super Aguri Press Release:

Super Aguri Formula One Team has today announced its withdrawal from the 2008 FIA Formula One World Championship.

Participating in Formula One since the 2006 season, the Team, which scored its first championship points after only 22 races (Spanish Grand Prix, 2007) and finished ninth overall in the 2007 Constructors’ Championship, will cease all activities as of 6th May 2008.

Aguri Suzuki, Team Principal, SUPER AGURI F1 TEAM
“In order to realize my dream to become an owner of a Formula One Team, I applied for a grid position in the FIA Formula One World Championship in November 2005. Since then, I have participated in the championship for 2 years and 4 months as the SUPER AGURI F1 TEAM, but regretfully I must inform you that the team will be ceasing its racing activities as of today.

The team has competed against the many car manufacturer backed teams and has succeeded in obtaining the first points after only the 22nd race finishing in 9th place overall in the 2007 Constructors’ Championship. However, the breach of contract by the promised partner SS United Oil & Gas Company resulted in the loss of financial backing and immediately put the team into financial difficulties. Also, the change in direction of the environment surrounding the team, in terms of the use of customer chassis, has affected our ability to find partners.

Meanwhile, with the help of Honda, we have somehow managed to keep the team going, but we find it difficult to establish a way to continue the activities in the future within the environment surrounding F1 and as a result, I have concluded to withdraw from the Championship.

I would like to express my deepest thanks to Honda, Bridgestone, the sponsors, all the people who have given us advise during various situations over the past couple of years all the Team Staff who have kept their motivations high and always done their best, Anthony Davidson who has always pushed to the limit despite the very difficult conditions, Takuma Sato who has been with us from the very start and has always fought hard and led the team and lastly our fans from all over the world who have loyally supported the SUPER AGURI F1 TEAM.”

F1: All-new Ferrari F2008

Ferrari F2008

Ferrari has become the first manufacturer to unveil their challenger for the 2008 Formula 1championship - the F2008.

Codenamed internally by the Prancing Horse as the 659, the 2008 car features a raft of modifications in-line with the new rule changes, namely, a new electronic system to be used by all teams, known as SECU (Standard Electronic Control Unit) and produced by MES (McLaren Electronic Systems).

It consists of a single control unit and a software system, the development of which ends as the season begins. Other areas affected by rule changes are: gearbox, which must be used for four consecutive events; safety, with the introduction of higher side protection around the driver's helmet; materials, with a limit to the type of composites that can be used. As a result of these rules, there has been an increase in the weight of the car.

All aerodynamic surfaces have been completely revised, however the current version will be replaced by a completely different configuration in time for the first race. In fact, an intensive and all encompassing development programme is planned to run throughout the season. The monococque has been further cut away under the driver's legs and the side pods and engine cover are more tapered. The suspension system has been reworked and developed around the new aerodynamics.

Alongside the introduction of the SECU, driver aids such as traction control and engine breaking and the electronically assisted starting system have been removed meaning that management of the differential, engine and gearchange are much simpler.

Reliving Past Glory

Renault hope this might give them a surge at Silverstone

If anyone saw the last F1 at Magny-Cours last night you would have noticed Ferrari's 1-2 finish signifying what might be the beginning of a dominant resurgence over Mclaren and the rest of the field. You might have also noticed that Alonso was driving with his balls to the wall but it was all for zilch in the end as luck and his strategy didn't pay dividends, even though he completed one of the best overtaking manouver's seen in recent times

BMW M5(E60) vs. BMW-Williams F1 car

November 10th 2006 03:23
Ever wonder what it's like if a V10 powered sedan that sprints from nought to a "hundred kays" in around 4 seconds came up against a Formula 1 car?

That's exactly what BMW-Williams and the team at car show Fifth Gear thought would be interesting to find out, so they pitched BMW's awesome M5 sedan against the BMW Williams F1 car, as previously driven by Aussie Mark Webber

Honda F1 racing car

My friends in the UK were all too happy to tell me what I had missed out on at the annual British International Motor show.

Dutch artist Paul Veroude created an amazing exhibit dubbed called "View Suspended" in which each and everyone of 3200 parts from a Honda F1 racing car was suspended in mid-air creating a living exploded technical diagram
