Volvo C30 with removable film

In an effort to make the Volvo C30 hatchback more appealing - or unappealing, as is most likely the case - the Swedish car maker has announced a new personlisation program that allows you to customise the C30 with a removable film featuring roughly 20 different designs.

The film sticks to the car's paint and is available in designs such as a zebra-print, sky blue with white clouds and many more. The film is professionally applied by Volvo staff and boasts guaranteed durability for approximately two years. As the car's original paint colour is hidden underneath the film, it will be protected rather than damaged by the film.

Once the durability of the film wears thin after two years, customers can have it either replaced or completely removed.

The cost of the film plus labour is in excess of US$3000.

Our take on this rather silly customisation program is that it won't be all that popular unless customers can actually design their own films - to feature company logos and what not - rather than choosing from the 20-odd designs provided in house by Volvo.

Some of the designs are so shockingly loud/bad/ridiculous that you will probably end up removing eggs from the car...a lot!

The all-new Kia Borrego SUV

Kia Motors has revealed that their all-new, mid-size, SUV will bear the name 'Kia Borrego' when it makes its world premiere at the Detroit Motor Show this month.

The new Kia Borrego (Mohave in its home market) is the first mid-size SUV from Kia and features a body-on-frame construction. It features room for up-to-seven occupants and gives the brand a truly comprehensive global product that delivers value, safety and ownership peace of mind to consumers.

Named after the bighorn sheep native to California's largest desert state park, the big SUV will be manufactured in Korea and will go on sale in its home market early in 2008, with sales in the USA and other export markets (Australian deliveries unconfirmed at this stage) commencing in the late spring or early summer. The Borrego will be available with a choice of V6 or the company's first V8 gasoline engines (depending on market) and will boast Kia's largest-ever towing capacity.

The latest example of Kia's commitment to designing products to suit specific markets, the Borrego is primarily intended to meet the needs of consumers in the USA and there are no plans to market this model in Europe.

The Kia Borrego styling is derived from the Kia Mesa concept vehicle first shown by Kia at the Detroit Motor Show in 2005 and is larger than Kia's popular Sorento model. The Borrego's third-row seating is designed to comfortably accommodate two adults.
