Top Gear hosts tank

As Australia anticipates the arrival of our own version of Top Gear on September 29, the original UK hosts - Jeremy Clarkson (Jezza), Richard Hammond (Hamster) and James May (Captain Slow) - are about to embark on their UK and world tour.

The three motoring presenters/larrikins showed up to the press conference in the grandest of styles - aboard a jet-black army tank with Top Gear livery as it thundered across London's iconic Tower Bridge to mark the capital as the debut venue for its UK and world tour.

Top Gear Live UK Tour

For eight days at two venues - [30 October - 2 November] at London's Earls Court and [13-16 November] at Birmingham's NEC - Jezza, Hamster and Captain Slow will host Top Gear Live at the MPH The Prestige and Performance Motor Show.

During 10 separate performances at each venue more than 95,000 car fans can watch the team unleash automotive mayhem, take on crazy challenges, preside over breathtaking stunts and engage in hilarious motoring tomfoolery during each 75-minute live action show. Tame Racing Driver, The STIG, will also be there to show them how it's done.

Top Gear Live World Tour

Home to more than 200 of the fastest cars on the planet, this year's £30million MPH supercar-fest is scheduled to feature an A-Z of automotive exotica from the likes of Alfa Romeo, Ariel, Aston Martin, Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Caparo, Farbio, Ferrari, Gumpert, Jaguar, Koenigsegg, Lamborghini, Lotus, Maserati, McLaren, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Pagani, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, Shelby, Spyker, and TVR.

Holden produces 7 millionth Vehicle

Holden's 7th million vehicle

Holden has welcomed its seventh million vehicle off the production line at the company's Elizabeth manufacturing facilities in Adelaide in the year of its 60th birthday.

The milestone vehicle was a VE Commodore sedan - a model which celebrates its own 30th anniversary this year.

A suitably delighted Executive director of manufacturing Rod Keane said: "This is a proud day for every one of GM Holden's 6,500 employees in Australia,

"It says so much about us as one of this country's largest manufacturing operations and most trusted brands.

"The next chapter in our history will see us delivering a wide range of energy solutions to meet varying consumer needs and budgets.

"I believe manufacturing the next million vehicles will be one of the most dynamic periods of GM Holden's rich history."

This year the company expects to ship half its locally-produced cars to overseas markets, including the United States, the Middle East and Europe.

Federal Industry Minister Kim Carr congratulated the manufacturer on its milestone but did not forget to add that Holden - and all of Australia's car producers - could not afford to rest on their laurels and had to work hard to develop low-emission, fuel-efficient vehicles.

"The reality is that the internal combustion engine will be with us for quite a while, so it's essential that we make it run cleaner and more efficiently," he said.

"This is our best chance of reducing fossil-fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions in the short term."
