BMW M1 'Hommage' Concept

BMW M1 Hommage

The iconic BMW M1 celebrated its 30th birthday last month and to mark this special occasion, the German car maker has reinterpreted this mid-engined classic with ultra modern styling cues.

The M1 concept - known as M1 Hommage - was unveiled at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa D’este over the weekend alongside the Maserati Quattroporte Bellagio Fastback and Bugatti Veyron Fbg Hermès and it proved to be the stand-out at the event. Blending retro and modern styling cues, the reincarnation of the M1 is aggressive as ever with its wide-body stance and profile.

While BMW executives stress that there are no production plans for the M1 concept, some of the design elements could very well make its way onto future models.

As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words so feast your eyes on the following selection of images.

AIMS: BMW CS Concept

The BMW CS Concept four-door coupe at the recent Australian International Motor Show is the brainchild of BMW Director of Design, Chris Bangle.

Tipped to enter production as an 8-series, the CS will go head-to-head with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz CLS-class, the upcoming Porsche Panamera and Aston Martin Rapide.

Proudly taking centre stage at the BMW stand, it seemed everyone was just blown away by the sheer size of the "four door coupe (providing) Gran Turismo for the luxury segment" - measuring 5.1m long, 1.98m wide and a low 1.36m in height. Its presence was unbelievable and the tight confines of where the CS stood made it awfully difficult to fit its entire length on the camera.

Thankfully, gymastical ability prevailed and the CS was captured in all its glory as evident by these images.

Finished in what appeared to be a 'shadow' aluminium chrome livery, the sleek look was finished off with a set of massive 21-inch alloy wheels. Although BMW has offered no clues as to the choice of powerplant, rumour has it that the CS could either be fitted with the 373kW, 520Nm 5.0-litre V10 from the M5/M6 and/or the 327kW, 600Nm 6.0-litre V12 from the 760i when and if it makes it into production.
