June 11th 2008 11:15
The BMW GINA Light Visionary Model is one of the most revolutionary design study to emerge from the automotive industry in a long time.
Although it is unlikely to head into production for many years yet, the concept still offers BMW designers - and the automotive industry as a whole - an insight to the innovative potential that reaches far beyond the appearance of future cars and takes into account not only materials and structures but also functions and manufacturing processes.
"Does a car roof really have to rest on pillars and be bordered by windows? Do all functions have to be visible at all times, even when they are not needed? How many personalization options does my car offer? Are there any possible alternatives to the rigid body shell made of steel or plastic?"
These were the questions BMW designers asked themselves when approaching the various design elements of the BMW GINA. As you can see from this video, every single one of these questions were resolutely answered.
