Porsche PDK gearbox

Porsche's recently facelifted 997 911 range features so many upgrades that despite the minor styling revisions, you could be forgiven for thinking it was a new generation model altogether.

Headlining the list of mechanical changes is the introduction of Porsche's own dual clutch gearbox called the Doppelkupplung, or PDK, for short. Boasting seven-speeds and a faster shift time than Michael Schumacher could ever pull off, the PDK-equipped 911 Carrera S is said to lap the Nurburgring significantly faster than the manual transmission version.

Click on the video to get a detailed explanation on how these sophisticated dual-clutch gearboxes work.
