Volkswagen Passat CC Gold Coast Edition

German car maker Volkswagen has unveiled a special edition of its new Passat CC four-door coupe at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance over the weekend. The special 'Gold Coast' Edition - no relation to our famous Queensland city - of the sleek Passat CC features a host of unique touches including a tri-coat paint named DuPont's 'Pepe Pepper' (mixture of gold, brown and silver tones) matched to an equally plush interior dubbed “Latte Macchiato” and “Cornsilk”.

Derek Jenkins, Chief Designer at Volkswagen's Santa Monica, California Design Center said: "We've added luxury and performance extras like tri-coat paint, high-end interior appointments, and ground affects that enhance the sportiness of our newest sedan."

Further distinguishing the special edition Passat CC from its regular siblings are the large-surface dual taillights that produce an unmistakable visual image day and night, a subtle rear spoiler and fantastic 19-inch 'propeller style' alloy wheels, which sit perfectly and almost flush with the guards.

The Volkswagen Passat CC Gold Coast Edition is powered by a 3.6-litre TFSI engine rated at 206 kW (280 hp) and 359 Nm (265 lbs.-ft) of torque and mated to the brilliantly fast-shifting DSG twin-clutch 6-speed automatic transmission.

Available in the North American market later this year with a starting price tag of around US$27,000, Australian availability is sadly looking rather slim.

BMW M3 E92
The current generation BMW M3 in Alpine White

For the past 30 years, BMW's M division has been building some of the world's most iconic sports cars including the M1, M3, M535i, M635CSi, M5 and M6 models.

By far the most popular M model is the M3 coupe with its previous straight-six engine achieving legendary status among Beemer fans and car enthusiasts alike. Therefore, it is fitting that the 300,000th M car to roll off the production line is an alpine white E92 M3 coupe on the year of the division's 30th anniversary.

A fantastic achievement for BMW and M sport division!

The first proper 'M' car to roll off the production line was the mid-engine, straight-six M1 with 204 kW in 1978. While the M1 was essentially a homologation special of a race car, BMW soon began developing 'hotted-up' versions of their production cars and the rest, as they say, is history.
