The Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) have awarded five stars to the Hyundai i30, Mitsubishi Lancer and Renault Laguna III for occupant protection in their latest vehicle crash report.
The Hyundai i30 hatchback achieved an overall score of 32.54 out of 37 and was commended for the passenger compartment's ability to hold its shape well in a collision. Despite protection from serious leg injury was marginal for the driver plus a slight risk of serious abdomen injury for the driver, the vehicle still managed to score 15.57 out of 16 in the side impact crash test where an additional two points were earned in the optional pole test.
The Mitsubishi Lancer scored 33.56 out of 37 points in this assessment and although there was a slight risk of serious chest injury for the driver, all other injury measurements were good. Last but not least, the Renault Laguna III achieved an overall score of 35.91 out of 37 and despite a door opening during the crash, injury values were all good.
Front, side and head airbags were fitted as standard on all three vehicles.
