Mazda6 spin-offs - coupe and convertible version rumours
April 15th 2008 23:59
While the first generation Mazda6 reinvigorated the Mazda marque in certain markets around the world including Australia, it appears the newly launched second generation '6' has failed to make its mark in the Japanese domestic market (JDM).
Known as Atenza in its homeland, the Mazda6 is available in sedan, hatchback and wagon variants but if the rumours are true, the number of variants are set to double with a coupe, convertible and performance models in the pipeline.
According to Japanese car magazine 7 Tune (7tune.com), the new models will be based on the sedan chassis - mirroring the offerings of BMW's 3-series range - and the performance variant will most likely be called the Mazdaspeed Atenza (or Mazda6 MPS as it is known in overseas markets).
