In the blue corner, we have the challenger and one of the newest entries in the world of hot hatches: the rally icon Subaru Impreza WRX. Lurking in the white corner is one of the current kings of the aforementioned segment: the award-winning Volkswagen Golf GTI.
Which one would come out on top in a shootout between the two turbocharged hot hatches?
In the latest episode of UK motoring show Fifth Gear, host Vicki Butler-Henderson pits the front-wheel drive 2.0-litre FSI turbocharged VW Golf GTI against the 2.5-litre horizontally-opposed turbocharged Subaru WRX against one another on a racetrack.
On paper, the WRX comes out trumps with advantages including half a litre up on displacement, all-wheel drive and 169 kW of power compared to the GTI's 147 kW but before you come up with any conclusions, watch the video and be prepared to be surprised!
