While the world financial tsunami has caused a sharp decline in new vehicles sold, there are exceptions and one such example is the Nissan GT-R which has sold up a storm since it went on pre-sale locally at the recent Australian International Motor Show.

According to Nissan Australia, more than 100 of the new generation GT-Rs have been pre-sold - at $148,000 a pop - since pre-sales began on October 9. What financial crisis, I hear you say!

And there's further good news with Dan Thompson, Managing Director of Nissan Australia confirming that the Australian allocation of the Godzilla should be sufficient to satisfy demand for the local market: "The early customer reaction is fabulous and we have secured enough production to ensure that no-one who wants an R35 GT-R will be disappointed.”

The GT-R is powered by a hand-built twin-turbo VR38DETT 3.8-litre V6 engine delivering a mighty 353 kW and 588 Nm across a wide mid-range expanse from 3,200 rpm to 5,200 rpm. Boasting the latest technology and electronic wizardry including the world’s first independent rear transaxle all-wheel drive system, a GR6 sequential six-speed with paddle shift control for the dual clutch rear transaxle and an electronically-controlled ATTESA E-TS all-wheel-drive system, the Godzilla can boast Porsche 911 Turbo beating performance and one of the fastest lap times around the Nurburgring for a production car.

First local deliveries of the "everyday supercar" are expected to begin in April 2009.

The Official Nissan Press Release:

RACE FOR NISSAN GT-R ORDER BOOK

Nissan’s jaw-dropping GT-R – the anyone, anywhere, anytime supercar – has sold
up a storm in its first few weeks’ pre-sale in Australia.
Since order taking began on October 9, more than 100 GT-R have been pre-sold as
customers rush to secure their part of Australia’s performance car legacy.

The Nissan GT-R, which is eclipsing many previous supercar benchmarks around the
world – and consistently wins comparisons with the world’s allegedly finest – and hitherto
fastest – production coupes, has struck a chord with Australian automotive enthusiasts.
Priced from $148,800, the Nissan GT-R is poised to become an instant classic. It will be sold and serviced at 11 exclusive Nissan High Performance Centres in each capital city when it goes on sale locally next April.

Nissan Australia, Managing Director, Dan Thompson said the Performance Centres
experienced a surge of customer interest following disclosure of specifications and pricing.
“The early customer reaction is fabulous and we have secured enough production to
ensure that no-one who wants an R35 GT-R will be disappointed.”
“More than 5,500 have already been sold in Japan alone since it went on sale there
late last year. And remember, Nissan only builds 1,000 GT-R’s per month at the Tochigi
factory in Japan.

2009 Nissan 370Z

The much anticipated successor to the Nissan 350Z has been unveiled ahead of its world debut next month. The Japanese car maker has released the first official images of the upcoming 2009 Nissan 370Z - the first redesign of Nissan's iconic 'Z' car since it was relaunched to huge fanfare in 2003.

Boasting an evolutionary design and US-spec Maxima-inspired headlights and taillights, the 370Z also features styling cues from the GT-R supercar. The new entry-level sports car is powered by a 3.7-litre VQ37VHR V6 engine rumoured to develop in excess of 246 kW - more technical specifications will be revealed after its launch at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 19.

Nissan also appears to have addressed the criticism of the 350Z's hard plastic interior with the 370Z receiving plush leather seats, suede trimmings on the inside door panels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a redesigned dash and centre console.

Set to go on sale in Europe and North America from early 2009, the 370Z is tipped to reach local shores by the second quarter of 2009.
