Subaru Liberty GT tuned by STI

Subaru Australia regularly releases various 'tuned by STI' specials and the latest recipient of a tuning upgrade and makeover from the Subaru Tecnica International engineers is the Subaru Liberty GT.

First off, the 2008 Subaru tuned by STI receives a 10 kW power boost to 194 kW at 6000 rpm while torque rises from 339 Nm to 350 Nm at 2800 rpm. Of course, power is nothing without control so the Liberty GT tuned by STI receives various STI suspension upgrades including Bilstein shock absorbers and partial ball bearing-jointed bushes for the rear suspension. According to Subaru, the latter suppresses suspension friction to achieve high lateral rigidity for further improvements in road holding.

The set of STI springs lowers the car by a further 5mm which isn't much on paper but gives the car an even more menacing stance in the metal.

Superb Brembo brakes - four pot front, two pot rear - painted in black ensures the Liberty GT STI can stop on a dime while a stainless steel mesh-type brake hose is added to enhance response and maintain high braking performance in all conditions.

Exterior-wise, the Liberty GT tuned by STI receives an unique front grille with "tuned by STI" badging. The subtle bodykit features a front lip and rear spoiler for improved aerodynamics and a new tip design for the sports exhaust. Rounding off the exterior upgrades is a beautiful set of 12-spoke, 18-inch ENKEI wheels with STI badging which are 2.5 kilograms lighter than standard Liberty GT wheels for vastly improved unsprung weights. The wheels are available in a new luminosity silver colour for the first time.

The STI makeover extends to the interior where leather and alcantara front seats featuring eight-way power driver's seat with memory settings and a cherry red STI logo awaits the driver.

The instrument cluster includes the speedometer featuring STI logo and new STI sill plates are used on all door openings.

Available in sedan and wagon guises and six-speed manual and five-speed SPORTSHIFT automatic variants, a choice of black, silver, grey and white liveries are available. Only 250 Liberty tuned by STI vehicles will be built.

Subaru Liberty GT 'tuned by STI' pricing:

Manual sedan $65,990
SPORTSHIFT automatic sedan $65,990
Manual wagon $67,990
SPORTSHIFT automatic wagon $67,990
Excludes dealer delivery and statutory charges.

Aesthetically, the Subaru Legacy STI S402 looks much more aggressive than the standard version due to the STI body kit and flared guards which gives an extra 20mm in width with a set of gorgeous 18-inch forged aluminum BBS wheels rounding off the exterior upgrades.

The interior of the Subaru Legacy STI S402 features a combination of black and dark grey colour scheme, front leather bucket seats and commemorative 'S402' plates.

The Subaru Legacy STI S402 will be limited to 402 units only.
