Subaru Impreza WRX STI 20th Anniversary Edition

The Subaru Impreza WRX and WRX STI are renowned for having a series of special edition models such as the WRX STI Spec C Type RA-R, WRX STI A-Line, S201, S202 etc. for almost every generation of this rally-bred car which has achieved cult status around the world.

The latest in a long line of special edition WRX STIs is the Japan-only - no surprises there! - Subaru Impreza WRX STI 20th Anniversary Edition - a celebration of two decades of Subaru's horizontally-opposed engines and all-wheel-drive technology.

Limited to just 300 units, the Impreza WRX STI 20th Anniversary Edition is available in WRC Blue and White liveries and features a sportier suspension setup with a new set of coilovers, thicker anti-roll bars, a black front lip spoiler and rear wing, obligatory special decals and matching white 18-inch alloy wheels as standard.

Inside the cabin, the driver and front passenger find themselves cocooned by a pair of leather Recaro bucket seats with red stitching and an STI leather gearknob.

The Impreza WRX STI 20th Anniversary costs 4,126,500 yen.

Video: Tiff test-drives the Subaru WRX STI

One of the most eagerly-awaited test-drives of the new generation Subaru WRX STI finally took place when Fifth Gear's Tiff Needell jumped into the driver's seat of the latest pocket rocket from Japan.

Sure, the standard WRX has its detractors with its ungainly looks but the aggressively styled WRX STI is a different animal altogether with its wildly flared wheel arches and sophisticated all-wheel drive system. There will still be Subie fans out there with a preference for the styling of yesteryear - and we tend to agree with them - but one thing that everything would have to agree on is that in terms of bang for your bucks, the Subaru WRX STI is right up there on the top of Fuji mountain.
