Hyundai i20

This is the first image of the Hyundai i20, an all-new five-door hatchback designed to replace the Getz and tackle the likes of Ford Fiesta, Honda Jazz, Mazda2 and Toyota Yaris in the hotly contest compact segment.

The new nameplate brings the Getz in-line with the rest of the new Hyundai range - the i10 and i30 - and is set to be launched worldwide in early 2009 after making its international debut at the Paris motor show next month.

The i20 is based on a new platform with a longer wheelbase and boasts significant improvements in interior space from the current generation Getz. More sculpted in its styling i.e. the contoured bonnet, tear-drop headlamps etc., the i20 is styled at Hyundai’s European Design Centre in Russelsheim, Germany, to give the Korean small car a bit more European flair.

President of Hyundai Europe, Kun Hee Ahn said: “The i20 was designed and engineered to meet European tastes and needs,”

“It was built on an entirely new platform and much of the ride and handling development took place on European roads, which has created a firm and agile drive. At HME, we are confident the i20 will succeed in the fast paced sub compact sector, as it offers much more in terms of standard equipment, fuel economy, interior space and style than many of its competitors,”
he added.
