The 2009 Grandeur offers luxury car comfort and performance combined with real world fuel economy delivered through the 3.8 litre V6 petrol and 2.2 CRDi turbo Diesel engines. The diesel fuel economy advantages enjoyed by Hyundai Santa Fe customers can now be enjoyed in a luxury sedan.

Safer and Greener: 2009 Hyundai i30

October 15th 2008 23:15
2009 Hyundai i30 hatch

The award-winning Hyundai i30 hatch will receive a series of upgrades for the 2009 model year including ESP Stability Control incorporating Traction Control System as standard, a modified 2.0-litre petrol engine that meets stringent Euro IV emission standards with reduced levels of hydrocarbons and nitrous oxide within the exhaust gas.

Other new features include a new 'Protectz' pack option for the entry-level i30 'SX' model incorporating driver and front passenger side (thorax) SRS airbags and front and rear passenger side curtain SRS airbags. This safety package is standard on the SR and SLX models.

The i30 is available in Australia with a choice of two engines: a 2.0 petrol engine developing 105 kW and 186 Nm of torque and a 1.6 CRDi turbo Diesel developing 85 kW and a hefty 255 Nm of torque.

The addition of ESP Stability Control incorporating Traction Control System on 'SX' and 'SLX' models translates to a small increase in price - the entry level i30 SX 2.0 petrol 5-speed manual now retailing for $19,790.

The Official Hyundai Press Release:

In its first year of sales, the Hyundai i30 hatch has become a multi-award winning car. But Hyundai is not waiting for its rivals to catch up, announcing several 2009 specification enhancements to ensure i30 maintains its leadership within the small car category.

With immediate effect, all 2009 i30 hatch models will be fitted with ESP Stability Control incorporating Traction Control System as standard. The initiative follows Hyundai's announcement earlier this year that i30 had attained a 5 star result in the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) - a first for the brand. The i30 SR, and SLX models, together with SX models fitted with side and curtain airbags (part of Hyundai's Protectz Pack option) are rated 5 stars ANCAP.

Simultaneously, modifications to i30's 2.0 petrol engine ensure it now meets the stringent Euro IV emission standards. Substantially reduced levels of hydrocarbons and nitrous oxide within the exhaust gas mean this version now achieves a 4.5 star Green Vehicle Guide rating out of a maximum five stars.

"The i30 has been a class-leading small hatch since its introduction late last year, winning Carsguide's Car of the Year 2007 and Green Car of the Year 2007, and most recently Ecocar's Best Small Car 2008", said Kevin McCann, Hyundai's Director of Sales and Marketing. "The 2009 models now going on sale extend i30's class leadership - ensuring even greater levels of safety and environmental friendliness".

2009 i30 - enhanced specification summary:

2009 i30 'SX' variants are available with either 2.0 litre petrol or 1.6 CRDi turbo Diesel engines and gain ESP Stability Control incorporating Traction Control System (TCS) as standard. The 2.0 litre petrol version now complies with Euro IV emission standards. Other standard equipment includes Anti-skid Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), dual front airbags, front seatbelt pre-tensioners and load limiters, USB audio input with iPod® compatibility, height adjustable driver's seat, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, full-size spare wheel, keyless remote entry, alarm, power windows and exterior mirrors and 60 / 40 spilt fold rear seat.

2009 i30 'SLX' variants gain ESP Stability Control incorporating Traction Control System (TCS) as standard. The 2.0 litre petrol version now complies with Euro IV emission standards. Other features over and above 2009 i30 'SX' model variants include side and curtain airbags, full auto climate controlled air conditioning, cruise control, trip computer, 16" alloy wheels, body colour door handles, front fog lamps, leather steering wheel and gear shift, driver's lumbar support, aluminium effects in the cabin area, woven cloth seat material, front seat back pockets, as well as steering wheel audio controls and 6 speakers.

2009 i30 'SR' variants are available with the 2.0 litre petrol engine, which now complies with Euro IV emission standards. Other features over and above the 2009 i30 'SLX' model variants include sporty rear spoiler and side skirts, leather and cloth seats, sports pedals and a 6 stack in-dash audio system with separate amplifier.

A new 'Protectz' pack option is available on i30 'SX' incorporating driver and front passenger side (thorax) SRS airbags and front and rear passenger side curtain SRS airbags. i30 'SX' with 'Protectz' pack achieves a 5 stars ANCAP rating.

A range of Genuine Hyundai Accessories is available for customers to ensure their 2009 i30 is tailored to their needs.
