2011 Lexus IS 350

May 19th 2010 18:00
2011 Lexus IS 350

The 2011 Lexus IS 350 will launch in Australia in the final quarter of 2010 with the highest specific output of any of its naturally aspirated six-cylinder rivals.

Powered by a 3.5-litre V6 engine, the IS 350 will develop 233 kW, attaining a specific output of 67.4kW per litre - the highest among its competitors and the highest of a petrol engine in the Lexus range.

Not only that, the IS 350 will also feature the greatest torque of any of its naturally aspirated rivals - with 378Nm of torque available at 4800 rpm.

"IS 350, along with CT 200h and other forthcoming product, will continue to grow Lexus' product range and appeal to consumers," said Lexus Australia chief executive Tony Cramb.

"IS 350 is evidence of our moves to widen our product range and close up a few gaps that exist there, with IS 350 slotting nicely between IS 250 and our performance flagship IS F.

"We have no doubt that, with its new 3.5-litre engine and features, IS 350 will be a very popular vehicle,"
Mr Cramb said.

"We are just as excited about this car as our customers are." he added.

Local pricing for the Lexus IS 350 will be announced closer to its launch date later this year.

Lexus LFA Nürburgring

March 30th 2010 18:00
Lexus LFA Nurburgring

Lexus has confirmed that just 50 LFA supercars will be available with the Nürburgring package, within the car's strictly limited global production run of 500 examples.

The Nurburgring package for the LFA is aimed squarely at hardcore track enthusiasts and was launched to celebrate the LFA supercar's participation in the Nürburgring 24 Hours race in May.

Lexus LFA Nurburgring

The mid-front-mounted 4.8-litre V10 engine now makes more than 419 kW (an increase of 7 kW) and gear shifts in the six-speed sequential transmission have been cut to just 0.15 seconds. Aerodynamics have been further improved by the addition of several new components: a larger front spoiler, side fin-type spoilers and a new fixed rear wing - all in light-weight carbon fibre.

In spite of the extra drag created by the new aerodynamic elements, the LFA Nurburgring can still accelerate from rest to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 326 km/h.

Further improvement in handling comes from sports tuning of the suspension and mesh-type wheels shod with dedicated high-grip tyres.

The Official Lexus Press Release:

LEXUS UNLEASHES THE ULTIMATE LFA

Now available with new track-focused Nürburgring package

KEY POINTS

* Lexus introduces Nürburgring package for the LFA supercar, aimed at hardcore track driving enthusiasts
* New aerodynamic elements for greater downforce, including fixed rear wing
* Power increased to more than 562bhp, gearshift times cut to just 0.15 seconds
* Nought to 62mph acceleration in 3.7 seconds and top speed of 202mph maintained in spite of higher downforce
* Performance package launched in celebration of LFA's entry in the Nürburgring 24 Hours race
* Just 50 examples to be built, within the total LFA production limit of 500 cars

In celebration of its LFA supercar taking on the challenge of the Nürburgring 24 Hours race in May, Lexus has launched a new performance package designed to appeal to customers seeking full-blooded track performance.

The new Nürburgring package provides additional aerodynamic features and technical revisions that improve handling and downforce without compromising the exceptional speed and acceleration that are central to the LFA's driving character.

Greater downforce, essential to peak track performance, has been gained through revisions and additions to several of the LFA's CFRP components, including a larger front spoiler, side fin-type spoilers and a new fixed rear wing.

Maximum power from the mid-front-mounted 4.8-litre V10 engine has been increased by 10bhp to more than 562bhp and gear shifts in the six-speed sequential transmission have been cut to just 0.15 seconds. Thanks to these changes, nought to 62mph acceleration in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 202mph are maintained, in spite of the extra drag created by the new aerodynamic elements.

Handling modifications include sports tuning of the suspension and mesh-type wheels shod with dedicated high-grip tyres.

Just 50 LFA will be available with the Nürburgring package, within the car's strictly limited global production run of 500 examples. If they wish, customers will be able to take advantage of individual driving instruction on the legendary Nordschleife circuit from the Nürburgring's chief instructors. They will also receive a one-year driving pass to the track.
