2010 Mazda CX-7

Japanese car maker Mazda has announced that a facelifted CX-7 with a diesel engine will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Sporting a new five-point trapezoid fascia, the mid-life freshen up of the CX-7 brings it in-line with the rest of the Mazda range. The biggest change, however, occurs underneath the bonnet where a MZR-CD 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine now resides.

The new mill offer customers eco-friendly performance and a sporty drive while also complying with Euro Stage V emissions regulations. The diesel engine is also fitted with a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system - the first of its kind in a Japanese passenger car - which cuts NOx emissions by 40 percent. This technology will be offered exclusively to European customers in the new diesel version of the new Mazda CX-7 sports crossover SUV, when it goes on sale in October this year.

European showcase of new Mazda CX-7 at Frankfurt Motor Show

The Mazda stand at next month's Frankfurt International Motor Show (IAA) will exhibit the new Mazda CX-7, featuring Mazda's new 'family face' as seen on Mazda6 and Mazda3. Also offering a bolder stance, the new Mazda CX-7 is powered by a high-output diesel engine.

Under the bonnet, the clean-running and highly efficient MZR-CD 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine will offer customers eco-friendly performance twinned with a sporty drive already familiar to the current model. New Mazda CX-7 complies with Euro Stage V emissions regulations, despite being a roomy SUV, achieving a significant reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

New Mazda CX-7 will provide a greater level of torque lower in the rev range, with maximum power also available lower down.

Mazda CX-7 debuts as the first Japanese passenger car to have a diesel engine fitted with a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system, which cuts NOx emissions by 40 percent. This technology will be offered exclusively to European customers in the new diesel version of the new Mazda CX-7 sports crossover SUV, when it goes on sale in October this year.

Thanks to the compact design of the SCR system, the Mazda CX-7 Diesel offers users the same 455 litres of luggage space (VDA) as the previous gasoline engine version, and it is user-friendly. Refills of the AdBlue® liquid to the SCR system are required only during scheduled maintenance.

Joining the clean-running new Mazda CX-7 diesel in Frankfurt will be a host of other environmental technologies currently making Mazda's European line-up greener than ever before – including Mazda's fuel-saving i-stop system, and rotary hydrogen powertrain technology.

Mazda's press conference will be held in Hall 3.1, Stand A7, on 15 September, at 12:45 local time.

Mazda Kazamai concept

Japanese car maker Mazda has released the first images of the Kazamai compact crossover concept vehicle ahead of its international debut at the Moscow International Automobile Salon next month.

Meaning "swirling crosswinds" in Japanese, the Kazamai strikes a mean balance between dynamic, environmental and safety performance in a stylish and compact crossover based on Mazda's long-term vision for technology development. The latest in the series of Nagare-styled concepts features crosswinds inspired design cues on the door panels and bonnet, a bold five-point grille, muscular front guards, a sleek roof line incorporating a panoramic glass roof, and a set of 7-spoke 22-inch wheels with a swirling design.

Under the sheetmetal, the Kazamai is powered by a next-generation direct injection engine and a newly developed transmission which sends power down to all four wheels. Combined with the vehicle's lightweight construction, this delivers great driving dynamics along with frugal fuel consumption and greatly reduced CO2 emissions.

The Official Mazda Press Release:

Mazda Kazamai Concept to Premiere at Moscow International Automobile Salon 2008

HIROSHIMA, Japan-Mazda will unveil a sporty, compact crossover concept vehicle, Mazda Kazamai, at the Moscow International Automobile Salon (MIAS) on August 26. Kazamai, which means "swirling crosswinds" in Japanese, expresses the powerful yet nimble image of a stylish and compact crossover. The concept is based on Mazda's long-term vision for technology development, Sustainable Zoom-Zoom, which aims to provide a unique balance between sporty driving fun and superior environmental and safety performance. Kazamai will be joined at MIAS by the Russian debut of Mazda's CX-9 SUV, which was crowned 2008 North American Truck of the Year in February.

The Kazamai concept further evolves Mazda's 'Nagare' design language by fusing Nagare's 'flow' design cues with aerodynamic proportions. The design features panel lines inspired by crosswinds in nature which evoke visual lightness. Its bold five-point grille, accentuated front wheel arches and sleek roof line, combined with large 22-inch wheels, lend it high emotional appeal.

Sporty to look at, Kazamai is meant to be spirited and fun to drive, with compact dimensions. Kazamai's four-wheel drive powertrain will consist of a next-generation direct injection engine and a newly developed transmission. It is also aerodynamic, with an evolved lightweight body structure and enhanced the vehicle safety attributes. Were it to be built, Mazda's latest show car would deliver exciting driving dynamics, frugal fuel consumption and greatly reduced CO2 emissions.

The Mazda Kazamai promises to be another ground-breaking show car from Mazda Design, winner of this year's Grand Prix du Design in Paris. Created especially for the Moscow International Automobile Salon, it gives a good indication of where Mazda is going with a possible future compact crossover. And in Russia's growing automotive market, compact SUVs are the second-largest segment, representing about 13 percent of all new car sales.

Complete information will be made available immediately after Mazda's press conference at 10:15 a.m. local time, on August 26 at the Mazda stand.
