June 18th 2008 00:15
The facelifted 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLK roadster goes on sale in Australia this month with prices starting at $86,780 for the entry-level SLK 200 Kompressor, $112,380 for the powerful V6-equipped SLK 350 roadster and $164,900 for the breathtaking V8-powered SLK 55 AMG roadster.
The 3.0-litre V6 SLK 280 has been discontinued for the Australian market.
Some 2500 current generation SLKs have been sold in Australia since its international launch in March 2004 (figures at year-end 2007) and the facelifted SLK is set to be even more appealing with news that the four- and six-cylinder engines in the line-up are now far more economical on fuel and, therefore, emit even less CO2, despite increases in their output.
The SLK 200 Kompressor has been boosted by 15 kW (to 135 kW) and 10 Nm (to 250 Nm) while the sporty SLK 350 gets a hefty 24 kW increase to 224 kW.
Two new paint colours (Palladium Silver metallic and Prehnite Green metallic) have also been added to the SLK-Class colour catalogue, as have two new upholstery finishes (Gullwing Red leather and Natural Beige nappa leather).
The SLK can now also be configured with a choice of two new interior timber trims and they are Light burr walnut interior timber trim and Black ash interior timber trim.
