Split: Mercedes-Benz to part ways with McLaren
July 8th 2008 00:15
German car maker Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will part ways with McLaren after the less than successful SLR ends its production run in 2009.
While the partnership between Mercedes and McLaren in Formula 1 will carry on, their partnership in creating road-going supercars will cease next year with future Mercedes-Benz exotica to be built and engineered by the company's racing arm HWA and AMG.- the upcoming SL 65 AMG Black Series and a rumoured SLC will be Mercedes-Benz's first independent supercars.
McLaren, on the other hand, will also continue to develop their future supercars independently.
The partnership between the two prestigious manufacturers were called off due to the lukewarm response the SLR has received since it was launched in 2003 - fewer than 1,600 examples has been sold to date.
