Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X
April 27th 2007 03:07
Here are some official images of the all-new Lancer Evolution "Design study" and while this may not be the final production version, the differences will be very much minimal.
The new Evolution will feature a 6-speed automated manual transmission, code-named SST and is very similar to the excellent DSG (Direct-shift gearbox) transmission found in Volkswagens.
DSG is a dual-clutch gearbox with one clutch taking care of R, 1, 3 & 5 while the other handles gears 2, 4 & 6. This allows seamless and ultra quick gear changes because the next gear ratio is pre-selected.
The SST will be similar and perhaps even better than the DSG because of newer technology and research.
The official Mitsubishi Press Release:
The development concept for the all-new Lancer Evolution X specifies a "new-generation high-performance 4WD global sedan that allows all levels of driver to enjoy the car's speed and handling with ease and in safety".
The new model features Mitsubishi's S-AWC traction and handling system, that integrates the control of drive torque and braking management with the four-wheel drive system to help realize highly responsive and intuitive handling in addition to outstanding vehicle attitude stability.
Other examples of Mitsubishi Motors' latest automotive technology to be featured in the new model include a new lightweight and high-performance 2.0-litre turbocharged MIVEC engine with aluminum cylinder block and a 6-speed automated manual transmission that contributes to exceptional performance with improved fuel economy.
The performance-driven design makes the car's extreme potential clear, while cockpit design focuses the driver's attention on operating his machine.

I know this is getting repetitive - but I prefer the style and shape of the new Subaru, and I have been driving Lancers for around 8 years now!
For mine, the EVO front end doesn't scream aggression, and the whole ride reminds me of a Lexus - I am not a fan of the whole European style that seems to be dominating current style trends - but that's just my opinion!
Cheers,
StephenP

ZCars
Ponderous
Perhaps they'll grow on me, just like the current WRX we see on the roads.
And I agree about the Euro-style coming out of Japan - they should just stick to what they do best rather than imitate their European counterparts.
Charles.
