Seat Ibiza SportCoupe

Spanish car maker Seat has unveiled the Ibiza SportCoupe three-door today ahead of its international debut at the London Motor Show in July.

The Ibiza SportCoupe will be offered with a line-up of three engine choices - a 59 kW 1.4-litre petrol engine, a 66 kW 1.9-litre diesel unit and the flagship 77 kW 1.6-litre engine with the latter mated to a new seven-speed DSG gearbox. There will also be a choice of three trim levels - Reference, Stylance and Sport, with an outstanding standard equipment list from the entry-level model upwards. There will also be ECOMOTIVE, FR and Cupra versions further down the track.

The compact coupé body measures 4.034 metres in length and 1.428 metres in height.

The Official Seat Press Release:

Without a doubt, the arrival of the new SEAT Ibiza SportCoupe raises the bar of sportiness on its newest model, combining impressive, vanguard exterior design with exceptional dynamic qualities and a wide range of engine choices, which now includes the efficient 80 hp 1.4 and 90 hp 1.9 Diesel versions. Besides, with a seven-speed DSG gearbox making its debut in this segment, the Ibiza range features a novelty that provides it with greater response and excellent driving comfort.

The deep-rooted SEAT sports concept is maximised in the Ibiza SportCoupe thanks to its compact coupé body, with a length of 4.034 metres and mere 1.428 metre height to match its temperament, lending the car agility and comfort both in the city and on the motorway. Likewise, the new VW Group platform designed for this segment also favours the dynamic qualities of the new SEAT Ibiza SC.

Design, quality and precision quality are three of the elements that distinguish the brand’s new model highlighting the new “Arrow Design” concept characterised by a lower positioning of the headlights and radiator grille for a sportier look.

Painstaking interior and exterior detailing on the new Ibiza SC include the dashboard, the instrument panel, ventilation nozzles and central console, which houses the audio equipment and Bluetooth connection which can be accessed via controls located on the steering column.

DSG gearbox for the first time in this segment

The new SEAT Ibiza SportCoupe is equipped with the new seven-speed DSG gearbox on its 105 hp 1.6 version for the first time in this segment, placing the brand’s new car in an enviable position compared to its rivals. The new Ibiza’s inherent sportiness combines with the comfort and reliability of one of the most efficient automatic transmissions on the market.

With shorter first and second gears and a smaller gear ratio, this new, twin-clutch automatic transmission provides the Ibiza with greater acceleration. Besides, this system produces remarkable fuel consumption, since the seventh gear is ideal for long motoring trips.

Agile, seductive and extroverted, the new Ibiza SportCoupe will be manufactured exclusively at SEAT’s Martorell factory near Barcelona and will be available in three trim levels – Reference, Stylance and Sport, with an outstanding standard equipment list from the entry-level model. In the near future, the model’s ecological ECOMOTIVE, FR and Cupra versions will also make their appearance.

Saab 9-3 Aero TTiD

The Saab 9-3 Aero TTiD, the first diesel variant to earn the Aero title, has arrived in Aussie showrooms with prices starting at $62,600.

The 1.9-litre, 16-valve unit features a unique two-stage turbocharging system for instant torque at low engine speeds - via the low-inertia small turbo when the exhaust pressure is light - and strong top end power at higher revolutions, when the larger turbo is engaged.

The turbos operates with a maximum boost pressure of 1.8 bar (1.4 bar for the current engine) together with a slightly lower compression ratio of 16.5: 1 (17.5:1). The cast-iron block, alloy cylinder head and all internal components are strengthened as necessary to withstand the higher thermal pressures.

The exhaust gas re-circulation (EGR) system is characterised by extremely efficient cooling and now includes an electronically controlled by-pass, and a low-maintenance exhaust particulate filter for improved emissions.

Other technical enhancements include the adoption of a larger air-to-air intercooler, for better cooling of the intake charge; the introduction of more efficient pre-heating elements inside the cylinder head, for faster starting in cold conditions; and the use of a weight saving plastic intake manifold.

The end result is 132 kW of power and a hefty 400 Nm (370 Nm for auto trans.) of kidney-punishing torque to deliver a sporty drive to the discerning customer when mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.

Pricing for the 9-3 Aero TTiD are as follows:

Sport Sedan manual -- 132kW/400Nm -- $62,600 -- 5.7l/100km
Sport Sedan auto -- 132kW/370Nm -- $65,100 -- 6.8l/100km
SportCombi manual -- 132kW/400Nm -- $65,100 -- 5.8l/100km
SportCombi auto -- 132kW/370Nm -- $67,600 -- 6.9l/100km
