Aston Martin V12 Vantage
December 12th 2007 11:41
Aston Martin has done what most people hoped and prayed they would do, but never actually expected them to. That's right, they have gone and stuck a V12 motor into the previously V8 Vantage. But to makes things a little more spicy, instead of just going with the regular (if you could call it that) Aston V12, they decided to plug the Vantage engine bay with none other than the fire breathing, 600hp motor from the DBRS9 race car.
Dubbed the Vantage RS, it seems that Aston Martin wants to hunt down and kill the Ferrari 599GTB Fiorano, no small task considering the precision and power on offer from Ferrari's big sports car. However, having 600 hp to cart around the lighter weight (1570kg) of the Vantage, there is definitely potential to compete. Zero to 100 should be dispatched in the low 3s while a top speed of over 300km/h shouldn't be too much of an ask either.
Making a car perform as well as the 599GTB on the track and street has more to do with dynamics than power, but Aston should be able to draw from their recent racing forays and create something special in the handling package. Otherwise I can just imagine how harrowing it might be to try and squeeze a good time out of this baby, even if spinning the rear wheels to oblivion is your pleasure.
