Proton Satria Neo

Malaysian car maker Proton has announced revised pricing for the 2009 Satria Neo three door hatch which now comes with a starting price of $14,990, a saving of $2000 but there's more - test-drive any Proton (not just the Satria) during September and be in with a chance to win an Apple iPhone (there's five to be won!).

The re-positioning of Satria Neo represents a saving of $2000 for GX manual buyers while the GX Automatic has been reduced by $1000 to $16,990 plus ORC and the high spec GXR manual has also been reduced by $1000 to $17,990. Despite the price reductions, each model still retains its list of standard equipment, good fuel economy and cheap running costs.

"Satria Neo was the only model in the Proton range that was not ranked amongst the most competitively priced vehicles in its category and we knew it was due for a price revision," said Billy Falconer, general manager of sales and operations.

"Currently the Persona and Gen.2 manuals are the best priced vehicles in the small passenger car category, the Savvy is the best priced in the light passenger car category and the Jumbuck is the best priced in the ute and cab chassis category, all based on manufacturer's recommended retail prices," he added.

The Satria Neo GX features a healthy equipment list which includes air-conditioning, reverse sensors, ABS anti-lock brakes with EBD, SRS dual front airbags, seat belt pre-tensioners, power steering, power windows, power mirrors, central locking with integrated remote keyless entry, alarm and immobiliser.

The higher spec GXR features all that plus 16-inch alloy wheels, rear spoiler, cruise control (Auto only), auto climate control air-conditioning and front fog lights as standard.

All models are powered by Proton's CamPro 82 kW 1.6-litre twin-cam multivalve engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission or an optional four-speed automatic transmission. Combined city/highway fuel consumption averages around 7.2 litres/100km (manual).

Satria Neo uses Macpherson strut front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension with stabiliser bars front and rear along with four wheel disc brakes and rack and pinion steering to ensure a total dynamic handling package.

Lotus styling is also noticeable in the interior of the Satria Neo with its sporty instrument binnacle, steering wheel and body hugging bucket seats.

Satria Neo comes with Proton's full three -year unlimited kilometre warranty with a seven-year anti-corrosion warranty along with three year's 24 hour roadside assistance at no extra cost.

Citroen C2 three-door

The National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council has rated the Citroën C2 three-door hatch as one of Australia's nine most secure cars alongside premium marques/models such as the Audi A8 limousine and Q7 five-door wagon and the BMW X3 soft-roader.

The Citroën C2 three-door boasts a remote central locking system that not only engages deadlocks, but also triggers a sophisticated immobiliser which makes it harder to steal.

The vehicle is just as secure on the move as it is stationary with an anti-car jacking system that locks the boot automatically plus the option of instantly dead-bolting the vehicle's doors via a clearly-marked button on the dashboard.

A powerful remote - requiring two presses of the button to unlock - also allows the Citroën C2 to be quickly identified and unlocked from a distance, with hazard and courtesy lights signalling the way in dark laneways or car parks.

The National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council (NMVTRC) is a joint initiative of all Australian governments and the insurance industry with the mission to drive down Australia's unacceptably high level of vehicle theft. This will benefit the economic and social well-being of the nation.
