Just weeks after announcing the revival of the Gordini name for its sporty and performance variants, French car maker Renault has unveiled the first model to wear the prestigious nameplate: the Renault Twingo Gordini RS.

Powered by a 98 kW, 1.6-litre engine that develops a distinctive, specially-tuned engine pitch under acceleration, the Twingo Gordini RS also features a 'Sport' chassis with 17-inch wheels for outstanding road-holding performance; precise, incisive steering for even greater fun at the wheel, and powerful, durable braking performance.

Seen in these images wearing the combination of French racing blue and white racing stripes (Pearlescent Black metallic paint is also available), the interior is a sporty and stylish affair featuring Renault Sport seats with extra lateral support, plus blue and black quilted, Gordini-badged leather upholstery, blue leather door panel inserts, blue and black leather steering wheel (with two white stripes to indicate the centre point) and a Gordini-badged gear-stick.

The 2010 Renault Twingo Gordini RS goes on sale in France on February 15, 2010.

The Official Renault Press Release:

RENAULT INTRODUCES TWINGO GORDINI R.S.

The return of the Gordini name is to be marked by the introduction of a new chic and sporty version of Renault Sport's pocket rocket which takes a current-day stance on the cues long associated with the Gordini world. Just as it did in the past, the combination of French racing blue, white racing stripes and stylish, quilted-leather upholstery forms an integral part of the package, with a distinctly modern touch.

The latest version of Renault's city car, which will appeal to customers looking for a distinctive vehicle with an assertive character, exudes an unmistakably French feel and stands out as a fitting homage to everything the Gordini signature stands for. Twingo Gordini R.S. is being premiered until January 10, 2010, at the L'Atelier Renault on the Champs-Elysées, in Paris, as part of the prestige showroom's 'Christmas in Blue' exhibition.

It will then go on sale across Europe from March 2010.

Twingo Gordini R.S. features a gleaming Malte Blue lacquered metallic finish, plus two white racing stripes, in keeping with tradition. The front and rear bumpers are enhanced by gloss black details, while the foglamp surrounds, exterior mirror housings and lip spoiler are all picked out in a contrasting white finish.

'Gordini Series' badging either side refers back to the heyday of the Gordini Cup when the qualifying heats of the different meetings were known as séries. This exclusive exterior styling package is rounded off by a choice of either blue or black diamond- effect 17-inch aluminium alloy wheels.

The same Gordini spirit prevails inside, too, thanks to: - Renault Sport seats with extra lateral support, plus blue and black quilted, Gordini-badged leather upholstery, - blue leather door panel inserts, - blue and black leather steeringwheel with two white stripes to indicate the centre point, - blue gearlever bellows and Gordini-badged gearlever knob, - blue rev-counter with white surround, - trimmed dashboard cowl with visible stitching.

LOOKS REDOLENT OF THE WORLD OF SPORT

RENAULT TWINGO GORDINI R.S.: A RENAULT SPORT MODEL FIRST AND FOREMOST

To ensure that it befits Gordini's glorious motor sport heritage, the latest addition to the Twingo range is based on the same performance/equipment package as the Renault Sport version:
- 'Sport' chassis with 17-inch wheels for outstanding road-holding performance that is equally suited to everyday motoring,
- a feisty, responsive 1.6-litre 133hp petrol powerplant with a distinctive, specially-tuned engine pitch under acceleration,
- precise, incisive steering for even greater fun at the wheel, - powerful, durable braking performance.

Twingo continues to enjoy considerable success in the European A-segment, with sales between January and the end of October 2009 amounting to 140,700 cars, an increase of 20 per cent over 2008. With 83,000 cars sold in France (an increase of 53 per cent over 2008), Twingo has emerged as the best-selling small city car for the second year running and accounts for almost one sale in three. The Renault Sport versions of Twingo figure are the segment's best-selling small sporting models and contribute to promoting Twingo's dynamic image.

Twingo Gordini R.S. is expected to win over customers looking for a sporty car with refined, distinctive styling. The newcomer combines the very best that the Twingo line-up has to offer with an indisputable French touch.

In addition to the existing, extensively-equipped Renault Sport version, Twingo Gordini R.S. features:
- Malte Blue or Pearlescent Black metallic paint, - black diamond-effect 17-inch aluminium alloy wheels, - automatic climate-control, - automatic headlamp activation and rain sensor, - cruise control with speed limiter, - fully disconnectable ESP , - 80W radio-CD with fingertip steeringwheel-mounted remote control, MP3 playback and

Melbourne 2009: Renault Clio Sport R27

February 25th 2009 15:00
Clio Renault Sport 197 F1 Team R27

More than two years after it was first released, the Clio Renault Sport F1 Team R27 based on the Clio RS 197 will finally land downunder with sales limited to just 40 units available from April.

Clio Renault Sport 197 F1 Team R27

Tuning by Renault’s performance arm has bumped the performance of the Clio Renault Sport F1 Team R27 (the codename of Renault's F1 winning Grand Prix chassis) to the next level courtesy of the ‘Cup Chassis’ suspension settings which has lowered the ride height by 7mm compared to the standard Clio Renault Sport 197 to ensure a lower centre of gravity and reduced load transfer for more effective cornering.

Further suspension tweaks including stiffened springs gives the R27 improved cornering ability through reduced body roll and pitch when cornering. With a 10% increase in bending stiffness and more flexible bump-stops, the double-axis strut suspension system is also more stable when braking and offers greater steering precision when negotiating bends in quick succession.

Powerful Brembo brakes with 312 mm ventilated discs at the front and 300 mm solid discs at the rear vastly improves braking performance.

The Clio Renault Sport 197 F1 Team R27 is powered by a 2.0-litre 16V engine developing 145 kW at 7,250rpm and 215 Nm of torque at 5,550 rpm. The only transmission available is a six-speed manual gearbox.

The Official Renault Press Release:

Clio Renault Sport R27 on Show in Melbourne

* First Clio Renault Sport 197 in Australia to feature performance-tuned ‘Cup Chassis’ suspension as standard.
* Recaro sports-seats
* Individually numbered
* April on sale

The Clio Renault Sport F1 Team R27 will be the star of the Renault stand at this years’ Melbourne International Motorshow.

The Clio Renault Sport 197 has been hailed as the benchmark hot-hatch chassis, but Renault’s performance arm has sought to move the game onto the next level with the launch of the Clio Renault Sport F1 Team R27.

Built at the Renault Sport factory in Dieppe, the Limited Edition Clio Renault Sport R27 is inspired by the FIA World Championship winning-Renault F1 Team, and shares part of its name with the championship winning Grand Prix chassis, the R27.

Continuing Renault’s rich heritage for producing grin-inducing hot hatches, the Clio Renault Sport 197 F1 Team R27 features ‘Cup Chassis’ suspension settings, plus signature 17” charcoal coloured alloy wheels, red brake calipers, Recaro front seats and exclusive Renault F1 Team decals. Only 40 R27’s will be imported into Australia.

Chassis set-up - Effective in the extreme

The ‘Cup Chassis’ suspension settings on the R27 include a number of enhancements for both track and road driving.

The ride height has been lowered by 7mm compared to the standard Clio Renault Sport 197 to ensure a lower centre of gravity and reduced load transfer for more effective cornering. Its cornering ability has been improved even further by the springs which have been stiffened by 27% at the front and 30% at the rear, giving reduced body roll and pitch when cornering. With a 10% increase in bending stiffness and more flexible bump-stops, the double-axis strut suspension system is also more stable when braking and offers greater steering precision when negotiating bends in quick succession.

The R27 is equipped with the standard Clio Renault Sport 197’s robust, powerful Brembo brake system, using 312mm ventilated discs at the front and 300mm solid discs at the rear.

2.0 16V - Sports Performance

The Clio Renault Sport 197 F1 Team R27 is powered by a normally-aspirated 2.0 16V engine and mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Offering a wide power band, maximum power of 145kW is available at 7,250rpm, with 215Nm of torque at 5,550 rpm.

F1 Team Links

The Clio Renault Sport 197 F1 Team R27 has standard decals on the front, rear, roof and door to celebrate Renault F1 Team’s Championship victories in 2005 and 2006.

In keeping with its motorsport lineage, the R27 also features red Brembo four-piston brake calipers at the front, Victory Yellow paint (which originally appeared on the Megane F1 Team 225 R26) and exclusive Renault F1 Team badging. Recaro front seats are also standard.

Derived from the world of Formula One, it also boasts a rear air diffuser which channels airflow to increase downforce on the car’s rear end, so counteracting lift. Meanwhile, on the side of the car, extractor vents on the front wings reduce turbulence to optimise the car’s drag co-efficient and facilitate the outflow of under bonnet heat.

Standard features

The Clio Renault Sport 197 F1 Team R27 offers the same comprehensive standard equipment list as the Clio Renault Sport 197, but in addition to climate-control air conditioning, cruise control (with speed-limiter) and ESP, the Limited Edition adds Cup Chassis signature 17” charcoal coloured alloy wheels, red painted brake calipers, Renault Sport Recaro Seats, a numbered plaque and F1 Team decals.

Recaro front seats feature as standard, offering harness cut-outs for a sporty look as well as a weight saving of six kilograms.

The numbered plate alongside the handbrake leaves no doubt as to the unique sporting heritage of the Clio Renault Sport F1 Team R27.

Recommended Retail Price*

The recommended retail price* of the Clio Renault Sport 197 F1 Team R27 is $39,990.00. Victory Yellow paint is the only option at $1,000.

The R27 will be available in three colours, Toro Red, Glacier White and Victory Yellow (a $1,000 option).
(* - plus dealer delivery, stamp duty, and other on road costs)
