Ferrari California Virtual Test Drive

August 18th 2008 00:15
Ferrari California GT5

With less than two months until its public unveiling, the marketing gurus at Maranello have teamed up with the creators of the Gran Turismo franchise to create a virtual test drive of the all-new Ferrari California.

Sony's Polyphony Digital, creators of the famous Gran Turismo simulation video games exclusive to the Playstation, have rendered a Ferrari California with stunning clarity and definition onto their GT5 prologue platform to create a beautiful 'test run' of the hard-top convertible racing through the virtual racetracks and streets of the popular game.

By the looks of things, it shouldn't be long before gamers will be able to test drive the Ferrari California by downloading the latest patch onto the PS3 but until then, head over to the California's dedicated site to feast your eyes over the latest Italian Stallion in motion.

Ferrari California GT

In an exclusive scoop, German motoring magazine AutoBild was recently given full access to the all-new Ferrari California GT and here are the images to prove it.

Seen here for the first time is the interior and engine of the new Italian stallion which we doubt will please the people at Maranello too much since they appear to be holding back on releasing more official images until the vehicle's international debut at the Paris Motor Show in October.

While there's no doubting that Ferrari uses the highest quality materials, the interior of the California seems to lack the 'X-factor' of the 599 GTB Fiorano and 430 models. Maybe its the fully leather-trimmed steering wheel that doesn't quite work but as whole, it just seems a bit cartoonish when compared to the race-car focussed interiors of other Fezzas.

The exterior styling of the Ferrari California has also been scrutinised and quite frankly, it's not hard to see why. The rear-quarter view of the car looks bulky and the jury is still out on the quad exhausts which stack up on one another, Lexus IS-F style. The side view also appears to exude more Maserati DNA than Ferrari which is disappointing.

Overall, maybe this is Ferrari's way of highlighting the 'GT-ness' of the California - we don't know - but it just doesn't quite live up to expectations for us.
