2010 Honda NSX

Barely a week after announcing it was withdrawing from the 2009 Formula One World Championship, Honda has made a second shock announcement with plans for the much anticipated second generation NSX supercar scrapped for the time being.

2010 Honda NSX

Blaming the global financial tsunami as the reason behind their unfortunate decision, Honda claims plans for the 418 kW V10 NSX, which was due to go on sale sometime in 2010, hasn't been completely canned and development will resume once the car maker's financial situation improves.

The NSX successor was widely tipped to follow the Nissan GT-R in challenging the traditional European marques in the performance stakes with a F1-inspired V10 engine developing as much as 418 kW.

2010 Honda NSX underpinnings

Rumour has it that the replacement for the Honda NSX won't arrive until sometime in late 2009 or early 2010 but when it does, expect it to come with a stonking F1-inspired 5.5-litre V10 engine developing some 418 kW according to the latest scoop from Auto Express.

The new Honda supercar will go head on against the likes of the Nissan GT-R, high-end Porsches, Ferraris, Lamborghinis etc. in both technological advancement and performance. The hi-tech 5.5-litre V10 mill will be mated to a six-speed semi-auto gearbox with steering wheel-mounted paddles for super fast shift times, while all 418 kW will be unleashed on the tarmac via all four wheels courtesy of Honda's Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system.

This is enough to propel the second generation 'NSX' from 0-100km/h in under four seconds and onto a top speed of almost 300 km/h.
