Teaser: Volkswagen Scirocco 'R' model?

Ever since the release of the new sporty Volkswagen Scirocco hatchback, many have predicted the inevitability of a hot 'R' performance model to be added to the line-up and it now appears that these rumours have been confirmed with this interesting teaser image doing the rounds on cyberspace.

Dubbed 'The Evil Twin', an angrier looking Scirocco appears to be lurking behind this blacked out teaser image where you will also notice the R in the reflection of SCIROCCO is coloured in the same trademark pearl blue livery of VW's performance R models.

If such a performance model exists, our guess is that the Scirocco R will be powered by either a 3.2-litre V6 from the Golf R32, a 3.6-litre FSI V6 engine from the Passat R36 or even the 3.0-litre TFSI supercharged engine unveiled by Audi yesterday.

Finger's crossed while we await an official confirmation from Volkswagen!

Volkswagen Scirocco 3D & Pursuit videos

Volkswagen has launched a pair of promotion videos as part of an online video campaign for the all-new Scirocco that made its official debut at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.

The first video clips to break cover are called “3D” and “Pursuit” and can be viewed at the official Scirocco mini-site here, but for convenience's sake we have attached these videos for you below from YouTube.

The "3D" clip is a computer-generated video some excellent interior and exterior shots of the stylish hatchback while the "Pursuit" clip is an action clip showing a suave James Bond like figure out-running some law enforcers - keep an eye out for the high speed 180-degree turn.

The 2.0TFSI variant equipped with VW's much vaunted DSG paddle-shift dual-clutch gearbox is featured in this video clip.
