2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS

German sports car maker Porsche has taken the wraps off their most powerful, street legal vehicle ever - the 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

Powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.6-litre six-cylinder boxer engine, the new 911 GT2 RS develops 456 kW of power. Weighing in at a svelte 1370 kg, the rear-wheel drive monster can sprint from rest to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. Sure, this time is 0.3 seconds slower than the AWD 911 Turbo S, but that only tells half the story.

2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS

The 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS boasts a Nürburgring-Nordschleife track time of just 7 minutes and 18 seconds, joining an elite group of road-going vehicles to lap the famous track in under 7:20.

Porsche has achieved this feat by bumping power up by 67 kW and shedding 70 kg in comparison with the previous 911 GT2 for a power-to-weight ratio of just 2.21 kg per horsepower - by far the best power/weight ratio in its class. And it does so using 5 percent less fuel when compared with the previous 911 GT2!

New tyres were specifically developed for the 911 GT2 RS and measure 245/35 ZR 19 at the front and 325/30 ZR 19 at the rear, delivering cornering performance to match the straight-line speed. Extreme cornering dynamics are ensured by the setup of the springs, Porsche Adaptive Suspension Management (PASM), unique anti-roll bars, specific engine mounts and recalibrated Porsche Stability Management (PSM), whose stability and traction control functions can be switched off individually.

The lavish use of carbon-fibre-reinforced (CFR) components with a matt-black surface finish makes the new 911 GT2 RS stand out clearly from the other 911 models. There are also flared wheel arches at the front, new light-alloy wheels with central locking and "GT2 RS" model designations on the doors and rear lid. Matte-finish carbon also graces the redesigned front spoiler lip and the 3/8th of an inch (10 mm) taller rear spoiler lip - which both enhance aerodynamics and provide extra downforce.

Lightweight two-piece bucket seats made of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic are standard, as are lightweight door panels with fabric straps instead of traditional door handles. The basic interior color is black, which contrasts with red elements, such as the seat center sections, the roof lining and segments of the steering wheel rim. The gearshift and handbrake lever are also finished in red alcantara.

Limited to just 500 units worldwide, the 911 GT2 RS will make its world debut at the Moscow Auto Show on August 25th 2010.

2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S

German car maker Porsche has unveiled their first Turbo S version of the venerable 911 Carrera in five years ahead of its global debut at this year's Geneva Motor Show in March.

The range-topping 911 Turbo S boasts even more power and better handling prowess than the 'standard' 911 Turbo courtesy of its twin-turbocharged, six-cylinder boxer engine that now develops a massive 390 kW of power and 700 Nm of torque.

Available exclusively with the seven-speed Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetrie be (PDK) double-clutch gearbox conveying drive power to the Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel drive system, driving safety has been optimised to an even higher standard. Dynamic Engine Mounts and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) including a mechanical differential lock on the rear axle has boosted dynamics. In conjunction with Launch Control on the Sport Chrono Package Turbo likewise featured as standard, the 911 Turbo S accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds and reaches 200 km/h in 10.8 seconds. Top speed is 315 km/h.

Extra-light and fading-resistant Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) are standard as are Dynamic Bending Lights, 19-inch wheels in RS Spyder design with central locking, a three-spoke sports steering wheel with gearshift paddles, adaptive sports seats, cruise control, a CD/DVD changer and exclusive twin-tone leather upholstery in Black/Crema or Black/Titanium Blue.

The 911 Turbo S will be available in coupe and cabriolet guises.

The Official Porsche Press Release:

Porsche 911 Turbo S: Even More Dynamic, Top Equipment all Standard

Stuttgart. The engineers at Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, have developed a new top-of-the-range sports car for the customer who will only settle for the very best in terms of power, performance and driving dynamics: the 911 Turbo S. The heart of this most exclusive high-performance athlete is of course a six-cylinder boxer boosted by two exhaust gas turbochargers with variable turbine geometry, with an increase in power over the 911 Turbo by 30 to 530 bhp (390 kW). Maximum torque is a most impressive 700 Newton-metres (516 lb-ft). At the same time this new top model comes as standard with all high-tech components available only as options on the "regular" 911 Turbo.

Despite its significant increase in power and dynamic performance, the new 911 Turbo S, at 11.4 litres/100 kilometres (equal to 24.8 mpg imp), does not consume any more fuel than the Porsche 911 Turbo, making it by far the most efficient sports car in its performance class.

The 911 Turbo S comes exclusively with seven-speed Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetrie be (PDK) (Porsche's Double-Clutch Gearbox) conveying drive power to Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel drive. Driving safety optimised to an even higher standard is ensured by Dynamic Engine Mounts and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) including a mechanical differential lock on the rear axle. In conjunction with Launch Control on the Sport Chrono Package Turbo likewise featured as standard, 911 Turbo S accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and reaches 200 km/h in 10.8 seconds

Top speed is 315 km/h or 195 mph. Extra-light and fading-resistant Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) provide the same outstanding performance in terms of stopping power and controlled application of the brakes.

The supreme level of standard equipment including Dynamic Bending Lights, 19-inch wheels in RS Spyder design with central locking, a three-spoke sports steering wheel with gearshift paddles, adaptive sports seats, cruise control, a CD/DVD changer and exclusive twin-tone leather upholstery in Black/Crema or Black/Titanium Blue additionally underlines the outstanding class and calibre of this first Turbo S in five years.

The new Porsche 911 Turbo S will be at the dealership as both a Coupé and Cabriolet as of May 2010. The German market price of the Turbo S Coupé is Euro 173,241 including 19 per cent value-added tax and local equipment in the market (the Euro base price is Euro 145,400). The Cabriolet retails in the German market at Euro 184.546, again including 19 per cent VAT and local equipment/specifications (base price Euro 154,900).
