General Motor's Pontiac arm enlisted the help of hip-hop/rap megastar 50 Cent aka 'Fiddy' to spruik the Solstice coupe at the annual New York Auto Show.

'Fiddy' is no stranger when it comes to stylish automobiles and has featured many exotic cars in his music videos over the years and he seemed particularly interested in the latest offering from Pontiac.




The car features delicious retro-styling cues and is available with two sporty engines - an entry-level 2.4-litre Ecotec four-cylinder engine with 127 kW (173 hp) and the flagship GXP model which comes with a 2.0-litre turbocharged Ecotec engine with 191 kW (260 hp).

General Motors will launch a targa (hardtop) version of the popular Pontiac Solstice coupe at the New York Auto Show which starts on March 19.

Production will begin in 2009 with an annual cap of 10,000 units which the manufacturer should have no problems selling given the car's delicious retro-styling cues and a sporty 2.0L turbocharged Ecotec engine with 191 kW (260 hp) in the flagship GXP model - an entry-level 2.4-litre Ecotec four-cylinder engine with 127 kW (173 hp) is also available.

The targa configuration - made famous by the Porsche 911 Targa variant - features removable hard or soft panels directly over the driver and passenger's head for open top driving when the opportunity rises. The soft canvas panel can be stowed in the boot; the hardtop will have no such luxury as it would take up too much space.
