Porsche 911 GT2: Respect Required
July 13th 2007 05:54
You have got to hand it to the folks over at AutoBlog for they have managed to get their hands on the scans from the official Porsche GT2 brochure before the car has even been officially unveiled.
So just take this as an unofficial 'official' unveiling of the new uber-fast 911 from Stuttgart.
ZCars even tried to view the official Porsche GT2 micro-site as printed on the brochure but true enough, we were greeted with a "File Not Found" by the folks at Porsche.
Give it a try for yourself here.
Improving an engine as close to perfection as the 3.6-litre mill found in the standard 911 is difficult, but do-able. How? By simply increasing efficiency.
The six-cylinder boxer unit has flow-optimized turbines featuring Variable Turbine Geometry (VTG) and larger compressors on the intake side. Together with VarioCam Plus, they boost performance while reducing emissions over the entire engine speed range. Other important features include the revolutionary new expansion intake manifold, dry-sump lubrication with external oil reservoir and the new titanium main silencer.
This results in a staggering 390kW (530hp) from a 3.6-litre displacement at 6,500 rpm. Max. torque of 505 lb-ft is available from 2,200 - 4,500 rpm.
The 0-60 mph (0-96km/h) sprint is completed in just 3.6 seconds, 0-100 mph (161km/h) in 7.4 seconds and onto a top speed of 204 mph (329km/h)!!!
