2009 Porsche 911 Carrera S

UK motoring journal CAR magazine has test-driven the 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera S equipped with the company's first production double-clutch transmission - 25 years after its debut on their race cars - and direct injection on the famous flat six engine for the first time in its illustrious history.

Watch the following video to see road test editor Chris Chilton guide you through a test-drive of the facelifted 997 911 coupe and his thoughts on the new PDK transmission which in short, is one of the best dual-clutch transmissions he's ever driven despite the confusing nature of the steering wheel mounted shift buttons.

Porsche 911 Engine Oil Sump Test Rig

During the development of its new direct-injection engines for the 2009 911 Carrera, German sports car maker Porsche created a test rig to evaluate oiling system enhancements. In true sci-fi fashion, this special rig replicates the G-forces experienced by a 911 on the gruelling Nurburgring Nordschliefe circuit.

As you will see in the following video, the super-smart Porsche engineers were able to recreate a lap of the famous 'Ring with a contorting contraption that accurately manoeuvres a 911 engine according to the G-forces and engine load recorded on a live lap of the Nordschleife.

Fascinating stuff!

Porsche Cayman S: Gemballa GT 4.0L RS

Gemballa GT 4.0L RS

We're big fans of the Porsche Cayman S here at ZCars. Sure the Porsche purists and 911 fans will hate on us but they're completely missing the point - the Cayman S is every bit as much of a driver's car as the flagship 911 and appears to be much more exclusive on Australian roads given the amount of 911's we get to see on a daily basis
