The Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) have awarded five stars to the Hyundai i30, Mitsubishi Lancer and Renault Laguna III for occupant protection in their latest vehicle crash report.

The Hyundai i30 hatchback achieved an overall score of 32.54 out of 37 and was commended for the passenger compartment's ability to hold its shape well in a collision. Despite protection from serious leg injury was marginal for the driver plus a slight risk of serious abdomen injury for the driver, the vehicle still managed to score 15.57 out of 16 in the side impact crash test where an additional two points were earned in the optional pole test.

Renault Laguna Coupe
Renault Laguna Coupe on the Monaco Grand Prix circuit

With the first public unveiling of the Renault Laguna coupe coinciding with the F1 Monaco Grand Prix over the past weekend, it would have been rude if the French car maker didn't take their latest model for a spin around the famous track.

This promotional video shows the Aston Martin lookalike being put through its paces by two test drivers from the Renault F1 team - Lucas di Grassi and Romain Grosjean. The BMW 3-series coupe competitor is powered by two V6 engines and boasts four-wheel steering developed jointly by Renault Engineering and specialists from Renault Sport Technologies.

Alonso Signs with Renault

December 11th 2007 04:20
There was no doubt really at the end of the last F1 season that Fernando Alonso would be looking to leave McLaren after the rumoured Lewis Hamilton favouritism and ensuing dramas placed what Alonso saw as a dampener on his aspirations to take out his third F1 crown. But where could Alonso go was the question everyone was trying to figure out. McLaren was a top tier team last season and is always up there in speed, even though some seasons have seen reliablity an issue. Ferrari has Masa and Raikkonen, neither of which were going anywhere. Similarly, BMW looked full and Renault didn't look like an option either.

Renault hope this might give them a surge at Silverstone

If anyone saw the last F1 at Magny-Cours last night you would have noticed Ferrari's 1-2 finish signifying what might be the beginning of a dominant resurgence over Mclaren and the rest of the field. You might have also noticed that Alonso was driving with his balls to the wall but it was all for zilch in the end as luck and his strategy didn't pay dividends, even though he completed one of the best overtaking manouver's seen in recent times
