BMW M3 V8 engine

Ever wondered what a car's cylinders would look like in slow motion when they're fired up?

This latest TV commercial for the stonking BMW E92 M3 over in the US shows you just that by using unprecedented technology to film the combustion process of a BMW M3 V8 engine without using computer generated effects.

As you can imagine, filming this process would have been an absolute nightmare and required a heck of a lot of planning which included sacrificing(!) three M3 V8 engines so manifolds could be cut, cylinders shaved, and lighting holes drilled for special cameras and lenses to capture the action.

Now that's what we call a marketing budget for a commercial that runs for just 30-seconds.

Read more about the BMW M3 here and read this to learn about the secrets of the high revving V8.
