Teaser: Volkswagen Scirocco 'R' model?

Ever since the release of the new sporty Volkswagen Scirocco hatchback, many have predicted the inevitability of a hot 'R' performance model to be added to the line-up and it now appears that these rumours have been confirmed with this interesting teaser image doing the rounds on cyberspace.

Dubbed 'The Evil Twin', an angrier looking Scirocco appears to be lurking behind this blacked out teaser image where you will also notice the R in the reflection of SCIROCCO is coloured in the same trademark pearl blue livery of VW's performance R models.

If such a performance model exists, our guess is that the Scirocco R will be powered by either a 3.2-litre V6 from the Golf R32, a 3.6-litre FSI V6 engine from the Passat R36 or even the 3.0-litre TFSI supercharged engine unveiled by Audi yesterday.

Finger's crossed while we await an official confirmation from Volkswagen!

Volkswagen Australia has begun accepting pre-orders for the all-new Golf-based Tiguan compact off-roader.

The baby brother to the Touareg will go on sale in Australia with the option of three engines (two petrol and a diesel unit) and prices ranging from $33,990 to $42,990. The compact SUV promises to deliver the mobility, spaciousness and versatility of a traditional SUV with uncompromising style that is capable of negotiating city driving.

Safety standards are top-notch with an Euro NCAP five-star rating for passenger protection throughout the range of vehicles which includes the 125 TSI, 103 TDI and 147 TSI.

The entry-level 125 TSI model features a 2.0-litre direct injection, turbocharged petrol engine delivering 125 kW of power and 280 Nm of torque. The oil-burning 103 TDI features a 2.0-litre common rail turbo diesel engine developing 103 kW and 320 Nm while the range-topping 147 TSI is equipped with the same 2.0-litre direct injection, turbocharged mill featured in the award-winning Golf GTI and develops 147 kW and 280 Nm.

Both 125 TSI and 103 TDI models are fitted with a six-speed manual transmission as standard with the option of a six-speed tiptronic auto (standard on the 147 TSI). Standard equipment across all three models includes cruise control, semi-automatic air-conditioning, an audio input jack, power windows and optional iPod adaptor and Bluetooth phone connection while the range-topper gets extras such as automatic headlights, rain sensing wipers, sports seats, and 17-inch wheels.

Further options for all three models includes a premium audio system, bi-xenon headlights, panoramic sunroof, 18-inch wheels and many more.
