Bentley to light up Melbourne Motor Show
February 16th 2009 22:30
After more than 80 years gracing the stage of the Melbourne Motor Show, four Bentley Continentals will grace the Bentley stand at this month's show, echoing the four Bentleys at the very first Show in 1925.
The luxury British marque is one of just four exhibitors from 1925 - along with Ford, Peugeot and Renault - to still be in business and exhibiting at the 2009 Show.
The four Continentals on display at this year's solo motor show will be show in three contrasting body styles and two levels of performance - the four-door Continental Flying Spur Speed, the Continental GT Speed coupe plus two examples of the Continental GTC convertible.
The flagship Continental Flying Spur Speed is powered by a 449 kW 6.0-litre engine with 750 Nm of torque and a 0-100 km/h sprint of just 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 322 km/h.
Retailing in Australia for over $400,000, only a select few will get to park one of these gorgeous automobiles in their garage. For what is the price of an average house, standard equipment includes five-ply, noise-dampening window glass, 20-inch alloy wheels, lambswool floor mats, a Breitling clock and rear picnic tables with integrated mirror and lights.
For those interested in a trip down memory lane, a 1930 Bentley Speed Six will be on show for the 75th Melbourne Motor Show Historic Tribute display.
The Historic Tribute car belongs to Melbourne car enthusiast and Bentley distributor Lance Dixon, and its advanced engine design and Le Mans-winning performance built a heritage that Bentley continues to this day.
