The European arm of Ford has released first details on its stylish new Fiesta today - a small hatchback that will go head-to-head in a competitive segment with the likes of the Honda Jazz, Mazda2 and Toyota Yaris.
Available in both three- and five- door variants, the new Fiesta has taken a leaf out of the Mazda2 design philosophy by shedding some 40kg from the kerb weight of its predecessor and will be launched with a choice of two engines including a 'sporty' 1.6-litre Duratec Ti-VCT petrol engine in the Zetec S model which develops 88 kW while returning an economical 5.9L/100km.
The new Fiesta features a specially-tuned Electric Power Assist Steering setup offering fantastic low speed maneuverability and ease of use, while gaining in feedback at higher speeds.
Safer and stronger than its predecessor, the new Fiesta boasts an Intelligent Protection System which includes standard knee bags and side airbags to protect the head, plus a 10 percent stiffer torsional rigidity.
The European line-up comprises of six models - Studio, Style, Style Plus, Zetec, Zetec S and Titanium - with varying equipment levels which includes EasyFuel capless refuelling, keyless entry and a ‘Ford Power’ start button.
