2009 Hyundai Tucson

Leading Korean car maker Hyundai has released the 2009 model year Tucson range loaded with a raft of enhancements including a minor facelift, plus new luxury and safety features to add extra appeal and enhance value across the range.

While the facelift on the 2009 Tucson is minor, its revised front grille, a change of colour for the front indicator lens, redesigned rear tailgate garnish, new wheels and a charcoal black interior are subtle but noticeable.

As a strong advocate for the life-saving benefits of electronic stability control in vehicles, Hyundai has included ESP Stability Control, incorporating Traction Control System (TCS), as standard across the range. In-car entertainment has been boosted by the inclusion of Bluetooth audio that allows wireless streaming of music directly from a Bluetooth compatible mobile phone or compatible music player as well as a phone-book that can store up to 78 numbers and names. The new audio unit includes integrated USB and Aux sockets allowing users to connect and play music from their iPod, MP3 player or USB memory stick.

Four new exterior colours are available for the enhanced Tucson range - Sleek Silver, Iron Blue, Silver Grey and Dark Bronze (all metallic)

The 2009 Tucson is available in three different trim levels: City ‘SX’, City ‘Elite’ and SX V6. The entry-level City ‘SX’ model boasts 5-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels including a full-size alloy spare, Anti-skid Braking System with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, dual front airbags, 4 speakers, front fog lamps, keyless remote entry, alarm, power windows and exterior mirrors and standard roof bars. A trip computer and auto light control system (auto headlights on / off) have also been added to the 2009 Tucson City ‘SX’ (these features are now standard across the entire 2009 Tucson range).

The mid-level 2009 Tucson City ‘Elite’ trim gains full leather seat trim (replacing half moquette, half leather seat trim) and Bluetooth® audio with integrated USB and Aux sockets. Other features over and above Tucson ‘SX’ variants include front and rear passenger side curtain SRS airbags, driver and front passenger side (thorax) airbags, 6 speakers including tweeters and an electric glass sunroof.

The top-of-the-range 2009 Tucson ‘SX V6’ gains all the enhancements of the 2009 City ‘SX’, but differs with its 2.7 V6 petrol AWD powertrain, unique new 5 dual-spoke alloy wheel design, body colour protective cladding on the lower part of the doors and wheel arches and twin chrome exhaust outlets.

A new Protectz pack option is available on Tucson City SX and Tucson SX V6 comprising driver and front passenger side (thorax) SRS airbags and front and rear passenger side curtain SRS airbags.

Hyundai i30 i-Blue

Hyundai i30 i-Blue

Korean car maker Hyundai has debuted its new brand for low CO2 emitting cars - the 'i-Blue' line of efficiency-focused vehicles - with the i30 i-Blue model at the London Motor Show. The i-Blue efficiency program actually made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March with the i10, a compressed natural gas powered car, but the i30 will be powered by a 1.6-litre CRDi diesel engine.

Apart from the diesel engine - which helps to yield a 9.66g/mile (based on European figures) drop in CO2 emissions - and a gearbox that offers slightly higher gearing at lower engine rpm, the i-Blue i30 is essentially the same as the standard model.

Hyundai is including standard equipment such as stability control, air conditioning and alloy wheels across the range of i30s with prices starting at £13,155 for the i-Blue i30 in the UK.

Australian sales are yet to be confirmed.

The Official Hyundai Press Release:

Cleaning up your conscience – and your exhaust emissions – can be a costly affair, with most manufacturers charging extra for the technology to cut tail pipe emissions.

But Hyundai has just launched a new range of cars – branded i-Blue - which will offer emissions below the crucial 120g/km barrier but which are priced at the highly competitive level buyers expect from Hyundai.

The first car in the range will be an i30 hatchback powered by the familiar and acclaimed 1.6-litre CRDi engine. With prices starting at £13,155, it is substantially better value than low emission rivals, including the offerings from Ford and Volkswagen.

The i30’s advanced engine design means there has been no need to resort to measures such as skinny tyres, expensive stop-start systems or lowered suspension to achieve the low CO2 figure. All that has been necessary to achieve the 6g/km drop over the existing model is a minor change to the gear ratios. As the revisions are so minor, the i30’s acclaimed roadholding, drivability, ride and equipment levels are unaffected.

Savings for owners could be substantial though, with the i-Blue falling into VED Group B, cutting the cost of an annual tax disc from £120 to £35.

But it’s business users who will see the really impressive savings. The new company car tax band for diesels producing less than 120g/km has dropped from 18 to just 13 percent, saving higher rate tax payers hundreds every year.

The new model remains affordable too, with prices starting at £13,155 despite an enviable equipment list that includes ESP, air conditioning and alloy wheels as standard on all versions. As with all new Hyundai models, the i30 is also covered by a five year, unlimited mileage warranty.

In addition the i-Blue badge will also be used on all i10 models which produce less than 120g/km. The introduction of the new 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine, available from September, means this will apply to every i10 with a manual transmission.

Even those Hyundai models which do not qualify for i-Blue status are still exceptionally efficient. For example, the Santa Fe is officially recognised as having the lowest CO2 in its class by the government’s Act on CO2website, beating even hybrid-powered rivals.

But the company is still striving to make all of its cars more efficient and future models wearing the i-Blue name could offer a variety of advanced fuel saving technology such as idle stop-start and hybrid powertrains in the short term with hydrogen fuel cell technology in the medium and long term.
