Equipped with stiffer springs and anti-roll bars, reset dampers and lowered chassis, the limited edition models are noticeably more track biased compared to the 'standard' models. Minor body changes include an unpainted carbon-fibre body, an adjustable rear wing and a larger front splitter plus unique forged alloys.

The Exotics(Part 4): KOENIGSEGG CCX

No doubt many would still regard a Ferrari F430 or a Lamborghini Gallardo as an 'exotic', a 'supercar'...and only a lucky few will ever have one of these in their driveway.

But in the age where even a Mercedes 'family' car such as the E55 AMG produces 'supercar' like performance and acceleration, the term 'exotic' seems to be coined rather easily and demeaningly these days.

So, if the F430 can still be regarded as an 'exotic', then the Koenigsegg CCX must be a 'super exotic'.

Why? Just look at it!!

If looks aren't enough, its performance figures show a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 3.2 seconds and a quarter mile time of 9.9 seconds - blistering pace!!

Once you peer under the hood, you will understand why this car is capable of such amazing pace. Sporting a 4.7L supercharged V8, the CCX produces a maximum power of 806 bhp at 6.900 rpm and 920 Nm (678ftlb) of torque at 5.700 rpm.

Head spinning figures.

Coupled with a lightweight (1180kg) body, this thing absolutely flies - literally, as 'The Stig' from popular UK motoring show "Top Gear" found out. The first time Stig got behind the wheel of the CCX, the lack of a rear-end spoiler caused him to lose control of the rear of the car at high speed thus crashing into a tyre barrier.

This was the first time Stig had ever crashed a car on the Top Gear test track and he was left rueing the lack of a rear spoiler that would've provided adequate downforce for him to "post one of the fastest times ever on the Top Gear test track".

With this, Koenigsegg promptly took the car back and fitted a rear spoiler on the car for a second test-run - and the result:

True to his word, the Stig delivered and achieved a lap time of 1.17.6, slashing the previous lap record of 1.18.4.

Australian availability: Unknown; unless you're Lindsay Fox or James Packer.
